Project Context and Scope

IOM Kenya is launching a targeted research initiative to better understand the drivers, routes, actors, and impacts of irregular migration and human trafficking in the Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia (KSE) border. IOM Kenya is also finalizing research on the impact of financial technology on remittances transfers and the influence on remittance receiving households in Kenya. Additionally, IOM Kenya is undertaking a study of regular labour pathways between Kenya and Germany. To support this initiative, IOM Kenya is seeking to engage a highly qualified Graphic Designer individual or agency with proven expertise in delivering aesthetically pleasing reports, infographics, factsheets and similar with timely turnaround.

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract
  • Support the design and development of standardized external publishing templates to support IOM Kenya Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). In coordination with Data and Research Coordinator and the IOM DTM Headquarters support functions, ensure the templates adhere to IOM’s internal branding guidelines.

  • Provide regular reviews of existing products to make them more visually compelling.

  • Support the development and design of bespoke IOM Kenya data and research products, including reports, online products, fact sheets as well as dissemination materials such as email blasts, tweets etc.

  • Support enhancing the visual elements of maps and other statistical analysis products generated by DTM teams.

  • Support the development of a regular DTM newsletter and activity reporting format as required.

  • Support the overall info product design and development process for the IOM Kenya DTM support team.

Performance indicators for the evaluation of results
  • Timely completion (within reasonable range, usually within a range of a few days to one week of work depending on depth of assignment) of graphic elements, formatting, layout of reports, factsheets, information management products and similar as requested by the Data and Research Coordinator.

  • Proactive communication of results, obstacles and experience with delivery

  • Ability to work autonomously 

  • Capacity to follow IOM House Style Manual, DTM Reporting Handbook and IOM aesthetic standards in all outputs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in Information Management, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Communications,, Multimedia, Marketing, Advertising, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience

Experience

  • Experience in information management in humanitarian emergencies.
  • Experience in the design and development of information products in humanitarian emergencies and transition and recovery.
  • Knowledge of IOM programming in humanitarian emergencies and preparedness.

  • Experience in data and information processing, consolidation, and reporting across different programme areas at national, regional, and/or global level.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills: capable to share ideas and explain results to all levels of the Organization and stakeholders;
  • Familiarity with statistics, data and research and communicating complex research in a digestible manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, PowerBI) required

  • Required proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

  • Proficiency of ArcGIS tools is beneficial (good working knowledge of spatial analyst tool); Proficiency in statistical software is beneficial (Stata, SAS, R, SPSS), 

  • Experience in Database Information Systems development (SQL or Oracle), preferably in support of assessment and data collection system is considered as an asset.

Languages

For this consultancy, fluency in English, both oral and written is required. 

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
