The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is hiring a Physical Security Specialist within the Corporate Security and Cyber Outreach department.
This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
This job is available as three years fixed-term.

Purpose of the job:
The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the BIS’s premises, assets, staff, and guests by performing patrolling, surveillance, personal security, and intervention duties.
The specialist supports the effective execution of security projects by collaborating closely with the Head of Physical Security, the physical security team, and other stakeholders. The role includes gathering and interpreting intelligence through OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) and HUMINT (Human Intelligence) to effectively conduct risk assessments and address security threats producing regular reports and recommendations to mitigate potential threats.
By joining the Corporate Security and Cyber Outreach team, you will:
Protect our premises and high-profile events, ensuring safety at all times.
Conduct advanced risk assessments using OSINT and HUMINT techniques.
Collaborate with top professionals to deliver impactful security projects.
Principal accountabilities:
Protects and surveys the Bank’s premises, including external events. Patrols inside and the perimeter of the Bank’s Basel premises.
Intervenes when incidents and emergencies occur. Supervisory role during the intervention.
Carries out open source & human intelligence and scanning, risk/threat assessments, risk analysis and physical security reviews/surveys.
Draft policies, procedures, presentations and high-level documents and reports in English.
Personal security duties when required.
Physical Security Specialist during events and projects. Coordinating, planning, and advising.
Carry a firearm during operational duties.
Demonstrates and promotes a customer service-oriented attitude, without compromising security.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
Professional background and expertise: Track record in law enforcement or certificate in physical security (higher education and/or CPP, PSP, CSMP, etc.) including professional weapons handling training. Physically and mentally fit for duty. Experience in intelligence gathering and risk assessments required. Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the field of security. Fluency in English and German. Knowledge of other languages a plus.
Operations: Team player, clear communication, reliable, accurate and organised. Able to spot unusual occurrences or situations. Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards. Flexibility to work special shifts and on-call duties beyond regular working hours. A high level of physical fitness, strong and proficiency in shooting to perform the operational duties.
Intervention and incident handling: Active, dynamic, focused, able to cope with stress, fast thinker, quick learner.
Intelligence: Expertise in gathering information from various sources, including open-source intelligence (OSINT) and human intelligence (HUMINT). Ability to assess potential risks and threats, identify patterns, and derive actionable insights. Strong critical thinking to evaluate the reliability and relevance of information. Strong verbal and written communication skills for preparing intelligence briefs, reports, and presentations.
Security assessment: Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative assessment methodologies. Risk and threat assessments of events and projects.
