What will you do in this position?
The Communication Officer will be acting as deputy leader of the Gaza Communication team on the development, outreach and publication of communication materials for the Gaza operation.

How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the Communication Officer and the overall authority of Head of Communication, the job holder will:
- Proactively support the development of WFP Palestine Country Office (CO)’s communication strategy and implement it according to the plan, emphasizing its role as a leading humanitarian agency and leader of the logistics, food security, and emergency telecommunications clusters, providing creative and required humanitarian solutions in emergency response.
- Align communication initiatives with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations, ensuring visibility of WFP Palestine initiatives and activities across the different field offices, and contributing to enhancing WFP's visibility, positioning and reputation.
- Support the evaluation of communication campaigns and initiatives, measure their impact, and propose adjustments to the strategy as needed to optimize results and engagement.
- Produce and oversee the production of compelling communication content (videos, pictures, articles, testimonials, etc) tailored to diverse audiences, effectively conveying WFP's value proposition and impact.
- Collaborate with the Regional Office and HQ to manage the distribution of content via official channels, including social media platforms, to amplify reach and engagement.
- Support the production of accurate and timely messaging that supports WFP Palestine’s objectives.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external media professionals and channels to facilitate proactive media coverage of WFP's initiatives.
- Monitor media coverage and measure communication impact, contributing to continuous improvement strategies. Address reputational risks promptly and effectively when applicable.
- Contribute to the definition of a dynamic social media plan to leverage digital platforms, networks, and partnerships and implement the plan for increased visibility and support of WFP's activities.
- Collaborate with Partnerships Unit and other stakeholders to align communication efforts with donor priorities and objectives.
- Identify opportunities and emerging practices in media and communication and recommend innovative solutions to enhance communication effectiveness.
- Provide technical advice to senior staff and Management with representation roles to ensure alignment and coherence in communication approaches and messaging.
- When required, provide technical expertise and guidance on communication-specific risks and mitigation strategies.
- Support building the capacity of the country office staff on communication best practices, particularly during emergencies, to ensure high-quality communication efforts.
- Support/lead where needed the planning, coordination, and implementation of WFP events, and donor engagement meetings, ensuring that it serves WFP goals.
- Guide and supervise junior staff as needed.
- Any other task as required by supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
EDUCATION: Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or related field, or First University Degree with 2 additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
EXPERIENCE: One year of postgraduate professional experience with advanced university degree or three years with first university degree is the minimum requirement. Additional years of relevant professional work experience in communications related fields is desirable. Experinece workig for the UN or an NGO highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Media and Communication expertise: Collates accurate and timely information presented in required format (i.e. written or visual materials) as well as verbally, to enable information flows and informed decision making on communications issues.
Media and influencer relationship management: Demonstrates ability to respond to and/or escalate needs of media and influencers within own scope of responsibility to raise the profile of WFP, build relationships and further organizational aims.
Specialized knowledge in communications: Uses sound theoretical and practical knowledge of communications concepts and tools to generate or facilitate the production of effective communication materials across various media including social media.
Communication strategy and planning: Experience in desgning and managing communications strategies and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.
Social and digital media management: Experience in managing an institutional social media account, including by producing and posting content and managing community relations.
Writing and content production: Demonstrates excellent writing skills in English and Arabic, as well as the ability to produce and/or oversee the production of high-quality communication assets for both traditional and digital media.
Socio-political context: Demonstrates deep understanding of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which influence approach to working, policy development and decision making.
LANGUAGES: Fluency (level C) in English and Arabic languages.
