About this position
We are looking for a technical, agile and motivated Water and Sanitation Consultant. As a Technical Water and Sanitation Consultant, you will support the Sector Specialist in providing innovative solutions to water, sanitation, drainage and solid waste developmental challenges in Surinam and Guyana. You will support in the identification and review of new project opportunities, including the viability of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the sector.
You will work in the Water and Sanitation (WSA) Division, which is part of the Infrastructure and Energy (INE) Department. INE/WSA seeks to ensure universal and sustainable access to quality water, sanitation, drainage and solid waste management services to contribute to the sustainable economic growth of IDB member countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and to the improvement of the quality of life of its citizens.
What you’ll do
- Propose solutions to the IDB Project Teams and actively participate in all aspects of project preparation related to water, sanitation, drainage and solid waste in Surinam and Guyana (and other Caribbean countries).
- Diagnose problems in the IDB Project Teams in all administrative aspects of project administration, including participation in project inspection visits and missions and support in the preparation of the respective reports, and review of consultancy deliverables.
- Provide technical support to the Executing Agencies in the preparation of project documents, including bidding documents, technical reviews, terms of references, Annual Operation Plans, Semi-annual Progress Reports and Project Monitoring Reports.
- In coordination with Sector Specialists, provide technical solutions to the Country Representative, Chief of Operations and operational team in Surinam and Guyana in matters related to the INE/WSA portfolio, including providing input into the Bank’s sector dialogue with government authorities, borrowing agencies, other lending entities and non-governmental agencies.
- Contribute to the identification, preparation and development of studies and strategies, including policy and regulatory matters, in water, sanitation, drainage and solid waste.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Engineering, Environmental Science, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in project technical preparation in water and sanitation and working for multilateral, bilateral or NGO funded projects.
- Languages: Proficiency in English.

- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
- National consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
