The IRC in Italy provides essential safety, empowerment, education, livelihood and health services to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Our programs operate across Italy, including in Trieste, Milan, Rome, Turin and various locations in Sicily and Calabria, with a strong focus on supporting the most vulnerable populations, such as women and children.
Position Summary
The Communication Assistant supports the development and implementation of internal and external communication activities. Working closely with Milan-based IRC Italia program managers, the role contributes to content creation for digital platforms, assists in drafting and editing communication materials, supports event visibility, and helps monitor media and social media engagement.
Responsibilities:
• Design and implement short communication campaigns that promote alternative, empowering narratives about refugees and migrants—especially young people—through storytelling and authentic, real-life testimonials
• Support the creation and editing of content for websites, and social media, particularly targeting young audience
• Draft articles, blog posts, press releases, and promotional materials
• Assist in managing and updating social media accounts, including content scheduling and basic analytics
• Support the shooting, production, and editing of short videos (“video pills”) for training or advocacy, including scripting, filming, post-production, and coordination with subject matter experts
• Contribute to the development of visual content (e.g., graphics, photos, short videos) in line with IRC and donor brand guidelines
• Support the organization and promotion of events, campaigns, and public initiatives
Requirements:
• Degree in Journalism or Communication, development communication, marketing, social sciences or other related field.
• Proven experience in developing communication content
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders.
• High proficiency in the use of technology and software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Professional, Google Products, social media platforms, Zoom).
• Proficiency in the use of Canva.
• Excellent command of the Italian and English languages, both spoken and written.
• Strong collaborator with effective interpersonal and analytical skills who can work seamlessly across cultures, and organizational units.
• Able to work effectively in a highly matrixed structure, multi-task, prioritize and make decisions.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to work independently and with a team needed.
