ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Job holders operate under the direct supervision of the Lead Engineer. He/she will perform day– to-day practical engineering activities and analytical work. Subject to the overall guidance, job holders’ complete assignments and provide advice on engineering issues, applying the established norms, standards regulations and providing expertise in making determinations and recommendations across a range of daily activities.
JOB PURPOSE
To provide construction and engineering expertise and contribute to efficient delivery and quality outputs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all inclusive, within delegated authority):
1. Contribute to the implementation of WFP engineering Policies, standards, norms and practices ensuring compliance with wider WFP policies, procedures, guidelines and operations.
2. Provide engineering and project management services, apply best practices, standards and innovative technologies that comply with WFP standards and processes.
3. Supervise daily construction activities to ensure all works follow approved drawings, specifications, and standards.
4. Coordinate with contractor and conduct QA/QC checks to verify material quality, workmanship, and compliance with engineering requirements.
5. Monitor and report field construction activities to ensure proper execution of tasks, accurate measurements, and timely progress.
6. Track material usage, verify deliveries, and prevent wastage through controlled site management.
7. Maintain a daily site log, including measurements, observations, challenges, and photographic evidence.
8. Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to the supervisor or project manager.
9. Identify construction issues early and recommend practical, timely corrective actions.
10. Ensure all site workers follow health, safety, and environmental standards.
11. Ensure that all completed works are inspected, approved, and documented before moving to the next construction stage.
12. Contribute towards the analysis of project proposal to enable effective decision making on project technical feasibility.
13. Participate in technical design, review, exchange of knowledge and experience, keeping abreast of construction and engineering technologies, to facilitate implementation of innovative engineering solutions.
14. Perform other tasks as required by immediate Supervisor.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience
Has worked effectively under supervision on a number of varied design and construction projects and taken responsibility for work elements which have been assigned. Knowledge of motorcycle riding and possession of a valid motorcycle license will be considered an advantage.
Education:
First University degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline. Hold or be eligible for Accreditation to “Professional Engineer” or “Chartered Engineer” status or recognized equivalent by an appropriate national or international regulatory authority.
Language: Fluency in English language and the duty station’s language.
