Training the next generation of scientists is a core mission of the EMBL. EICAT’s Internal Scientific Training team coordinates EMBL’s Predoctoral and Postdoctoral programmes, which host around 500 fellows at any given time. Both programmes leverage EMBL’s interdisciplinary and dynamic scientific environment and, together with the EMBL Fellows’ Career Service and the Complementary Scientific Skills programme, provide world class training and career development for our fellows.

As a Programme Officer for ARISE2, you will be involved in implementing a new EC-funded project (ARISE2) to support the recruitment and training of 50 researchers. ARISE2 offers talented STEM fellows from around the world the unique opportunity to work on the development and/or improvement of technologies for Life Science Research while developing the expertise needed for a career in research infrastructures making them sought after experts both in academia and industry.

As part of the Fellowship Programme team which includes the Ph.D. and Postdoctoral Programmes you will run daily operations, develop the programme and implement all recruitment, training and outreach activities. You will also work closely with the ARISE2 Programme leadership. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the ARISE2 fellowship programme under the direction of the Fellowship programmes lead and the ARISE2 Programme Director and in collaboration with the ARISE2 Scientific Director. This includes organizing the programme selection rounds and programme-related meetings.
  • Maintain a close communication with the ARISE2 Directors, ARISE2 Executive and Advisory Committee, and the rest of ARISE2 team as well as internal and external stakeholders, e.g. fellows, EMBL group leaders, partner organisations, industry
  • Organise and minute meetings, prepare programme-related materials including presentations, keep records and collect feedback
  • Liaising with RICapacity, the programme's implementing partner for training and partner relations, including support with logistics of on-site courses and webinars
  • Develop and maintain the ARISE2 programme website
  • Supporting ARISE2 fellows and supervisors in all programme-related matters (e.g. secondments, training, supervision, monitoring progress, collecting feedback).
  • Promoting the programme at events and meetings
  • Reporting to the EC according to the ARISE2 grant agreement (e.g. on project deliverables)
  • Contributing to other postdoc programme activities as needed.

You have

  • A higher-level university STEM degree and experience as a science manager, a strong background in operational processes, and interest in strategic development.
  • Good understanding of research infrastructures in life sciences to facilitate decisions on infrastructure-related aspects of the programme
  • The ability to work in a self-dependent and proactive manner across a broad range of functions in a dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding organisational skills, attention to detail, high service orientation and experience in problem-solving
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills.

You might also have:

  • A Ph.D. and/or postdoctoral experience
  • Experience working in technology development or in a research infrastructure setting
  • Additional qualifications in the area of (scientific/grant/project) management
  • Previous experience in implementing EC-funded projects
  • Experience working in an international environment
  • Experience in budget management

Salary

Grade 5 monthly salary from EUR 4,031 plus allowances based on family circumstances (excl. pension and insurance contributions)
