Job Description
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners. With 175 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM, the UN Migration Agency, is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. Brazil is a Member State of IOM since 2004.
IOM is committed to supporting Member States in strengthening migration governance in line with the principles of the Migration Governance Framework (MiGOF), the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), and relevant international instruments.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme, the Project Coordinator – Migration Governance, will support the activities in a national level. The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the following:
Responsibilities
- Support the IOM office in activities related to national, local migration policies and migration governance.
- Provide technical support to the IOM office in drafting of relevant meeting notes, concept notes and reports.
- Conduct meetings with relevant stakeholders and attend periodical meetings of the Committees and collegiate bodies.
- Coordinate the information exchange among stakeholders and the IOM office.
- Technically support the IOM office in the preparation of conferences and other events organized by local governments.
- Carry on tasks related to the IOM office’s activities to support events and issuing of products related to Local Plans and Policies.
- Support the IOM office liaising with local governments to develop and/or maintain and monitor existing legal agreements.
- Organize and encourage capacity building and training with local governments.
- Support the preparation, monitoring and analysis of general and specific aspects of program/project development and implementation.
- Administrative support - Identify and track follow-up actions; support travel, reporting, data collection and procurement actions as required.
- Assist in performing various assignments, in collaboration with national counterparts, by planning, organizing, managing logistics, and facilitating different events and activities in their administrative and organizational aspects with local governments, civil society and migrants.
Perform other work-related tasks, as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- University degree in Public Administration, Political Science, International Relations, Migration Studies, Social Sciences, Law, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
Master’s degree in above fields an advantage.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in project support, policy analysis, or capacity-building in public policy, migration governance, or related fields.
Knowledge of migration issues, governance frameworks, and international cooperation.
Ability to establish and maintain strong working relations with relevant government counterparts, civil society, international organizations and private sector entities.
Relevant field experience related to migration, refugee and stateless population.
Familiarity with international frameworks and standards on migration (e.g., MiGOF, GCM, SDGs, human rights instruments).
Proven experience in supporting the formulation, implementation, and/or monitoring of public policies, ideally within government institutions, international organizations, or NGOs.
Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate capacity-building activities, such as workshops, training, and consultations.
Experience performing administrative tasks.
Experience with project cycle management, including planning, budgeting, implementation, and monitoring.
Experience in municipal or decentralized governance contexts is an asset, especially in developing and implementing local migration or integration strategies.
Prior work experience within IOM or another UN agency is an advantage
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in Portuguese (oral and written) and in English (oral and written) are required.
DESIRABLE
Working knowledge in Spanish is a distinct advantage.
