1.Manage, supervise and coordinate the implementation of the programme Strengthening the Sustainable and inclusive management of the marine protected area of Grand Bereby, recognized as particularly important for the conservation of biodiversity in Côte d’Ivoire (GEF Project ID : 11007). 2.Review of All the project documents and draft a budget and work planning 3.Liaise with UNEP, government agencies, programme partners, and NGOs for effective coordination of activities. 4.Organize National Steering Committee meetings 5.Draft Project Implementation Review (PIR) report 6.Draft Co-financing report (including supporting evidence for in-kind co-finance) 7.Support and carry out regular monitoring of implementing partner performances and verify the implementation status of the programme and the progress towards reaching set programme targets. 8.Participate to and Monitor the programme sites field visits and Indicators tracking 9.Mesure the programme project progress and performance indicators 10.Lead the timely submission of quality and complete key deliverables including but not limited to Progress Update Reports, quarterly reviews, pulse checks and risk matrix 11.Ensure the development and implementation of an effective programme and financial M&E system meeting donor requirements, as well as ensuring that systems are in place for effective monitoring of the beneficiaries’ actions and of funds disbursed. 12.Lead an effective communications strategy and ensure effective relations with stakeholders.

UN Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The UNEP Regional Seas Programme encompasses 18 Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans across the world. The UNEP Regional Seas Programme has been UNEP's most important regional mechanism for the conservation of the marine and coastal environment since its establishment in 1974. To support the international conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework notably through Target 11 (the ‘30X30’ target), the regional seas branch is implementing through the Convention for Cooperation in the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Atlantic Coast of the West and Central Africa Region (Abidjan Convention), the programme Strengthening the Sustainable and inclusive management of the marine protected area of Grand Bereby, recognized as particularly important for the conservation of biodiversity in Côte d’Ivoire (GEF Project ID : 11007). The purpose of this consultancy is: a) To manage, supervise and coordinate the implementation of the programme Strengthening the Sustainable and inclusive management of the marine protected area of Grand Bereby, recognized as particularly important for the conservation of biodiversity in Côte d’Ivoire (GEF Project ID : 11007) Duties and Responsibilities. The Regional Seas Branch responsible for supporting implementation of the UNEP Regional Seas Programme is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Coordinator with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in programme management and implementation. The consultant will support the Abidjan Convention to manage, supervise and coordinate the implementation of the programme Strengthening the Sustainable and inclusive management of the marine protected area of Grand Bereby, recognized as particularly important for the conservation of biodiversity in Côte d’Ivoire (GEF Project ID : 11007). Under the supervision of the Abidjan Convention Secretariat Coordinator and in collaboration with the GEF Task Manager, the consultant will perform the following functions:

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Oceanography, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Biology, or a related field is required. A first university degree in related fields with a combination of two (2) years of professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of two (2) years of professional working experience in the field of project management in connection with marine and coastal biodiversity, the environment, sustainable development or other related disciplines are required. Relevant experience in developing, implementing and/or planning cooperation projects with international donors is required. Experience on issues related to biodiversity management, marine protected areas, climate change, multilateral environmental agreements and other related areas is required Team coordination skills, including in a complex, multi-stakeholder and multi-donor environments is required. Experience in communication and advocacy is desirable Knowledge of the UN system is desirable Knowledge of the Abidjan Convention is desirable

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in oral and written English and French is required. Knowledge of any other UN language is desirable.
