We have an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative Training Team in a fixed-term role based in Hinxton, UK, working closely with – and supported by – our Scientific Training Lead (Grants Programme). Training is a core activity across EMBL-EBI, involving almost every part of the organisation and is coordinated by a team of about 20 people. The Training Team delivers a world-recognised programme that encompasses face-to-face and online learning, training trainers, and secondees. The EMBL-EBI training team contributes towards a high number of externally funded projects; depending on the project this may involve training, dissemination, and project management.
Your role
You will focus primarily on delivering our training commitments to grant-funded projects, as well as contributing to EMBL-EBI’s core programme as required, which includes live courses and on-demand content. You will contribute to the development of the team’s grant portfolio, working with the Scientific Training Lead (grants) to maintain a healthy portfolio of externally funded training activities aligned with EMBL strategic goals. You will develop and contribute to the delivery of onsite and virtual courses that are part of the EMBL-EBI Training core programme, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to community initiatives including the development of training standards and the delivery of Train-the-trainer activities.
The post reports to the Scientific Training Leads. It requires considerable independence and extensive interactions with others at and beyond EMBL-EBI. The role involves some international travel and from time to time work outside of normal office hours
Responsibilities include:
Support the design and delivery of global training programmes (webinars, on-demand content, remote and face-to-face courses), working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure training meets audience needs through needs analysis and competency frameworks.
Represent the EMBL-EBI training team in internal and external project meetings, contributing to planning, coordination and delivery activities, including meeting facilitation and minutes, KPI tracking, reporting and presentation of results.
Develop and facilitate high-quality training materials and courses, promoting training best practice and project objectives.
Monitor and analyse course feedback to support quality assurance and assess the long-term impact of training activities.
Maintain training communications and information (including web content) and support dissemination of project updates.
Contribute to funding applications and grant writing for new training initiatives.
You have:
PhD (or similar level of expertise) in molecular life sciences or a related subject
Experience managing or contributing to projects in an international setting and/or European or publicly funded projects
Experience in delivering teaching/training and/or designing training programmes for a specific audience
Able to work to deadlines; good time management, management of own workload and organisational skills
Comfortable in using remote collaboration tools and digital project management software (e.g. Zoom, Slack, Trello, or similar software)
Self-motivated and able to engage and enthuse others
Able to communicate with a wide range of audiences
Able to take the lead on activities of varying complexity, where required
Contribute to a culture of integrity and trust among your collaborators, building mutual understanding and helping to set realistic expectations
You may also have:
A teaching or training qualification
Experience of managing or contributing to outreach and communications including the creation of web content, social media, mailing lists and newsletters
Knowledge of Agile working methodology
Experience of working with bioinformatics tools and resources
Experience of programming and/or bioinformatics analysis
Experience of stakeholder analysis, training needs analysis, and/or competency development
Confident facilitator and negotiator
Contract length: This is a project-based fixed-term contract with an anticipated end date on 31/12/2027.
Salary: Grade 5, monthly salary starting at £3,229.13 after tax but excluding pension and insurance contributions. Plus, generous benefits.
