We are Europe’s flagship research laboratory for the life sciences – an intergovernmental organisation performing scientific research in disciplines including molecular biology, physics, chemistry and computer science. We are an international, innovative and interdisciplinary laboratory operating across six sites, in Heidelberg (HQ), Barcelona, Hinxton near Cambridge, Hamburg, Grenoble and Rome.

Our Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) consists of several organisational units providing service to EMBL investigators.

Your role 

You will be assigned several routine duties in the animal house, such as:

  • Operating cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation equipment
  • Waste disposal
  • Cage washing and preparation
  • Cleaning of working and common areas
  • Unloading, unpacking and storing incoming supplies
  • Maintenance of stores and stocks, included record-keeping
  • General basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

You have 

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in similar duties
  • Basic computer skills (email and Microsoft Office package)
  • Proficiency in German language and basic knowledge of English language
  • Ability to work as part of a team

You may also have

  • Prior experience working in an animal facility would be an asset

Contract length:

Initially 1 year with the possibility to be extended

Salary: Grade 1 (monthly salary starting from EUR 3,000, after tax and before social security contributions, plus additional benefits)
