Mission and objectives

As the development arm of the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the leading organization working to end the injustice of poverty, inequality and cli-mate change, as well as the technical lead in the UN System's socio-economic response to COVID-19. Working with a broad network of experts and partners in 170 countries, UNDP helps nations to build integrated, lasting solutions for people and planet.

UNDP’s mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. We advocate for change, and connect countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.

Since 1967, UNDP has worked in close partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) for over five decades, providing strategic support in crisis prevention and recovery, governance, poverty reduction, environment, and sustainable development. UNDP together with the GoSL work towards a sustainable Sri Lanka, building up institutional, legal and individual capacities to respond to the effects of climate change and natural and man-made disasters.

Context

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in coordination with United Nations Fund for Population Activity (UNFPA) in Sri Lanka, seeks to bring about a justice sector approach to addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) against women and girls, and gender minorities, by designing and implementing a dedicated project titled “Ensuring Access to Justice for Victim-Survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Sri Lanka". The project envisions empowering women, girls and gender minorities, including victim survivors of SGBV, to access justice, demand better service delivery, and have a society free of SGBV. Overall, the proposed intervention aims at creating transformative change through increased empowerment and voice of women, girls and gender minorities, including victim survivors of SGBV, to independently and collectively hold the justice process, service providers and larger society accountable for their absolute right to be free of SGBV.
Against this backdrop, UNDP seeks to recruit a Project Associate – SGBV under a UNV assignment. The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical inputs, engaging with national-level counterparts, including those within the justice sector, and supporting the acceleration of project delivery. The role will also focus on strengthening coordination among key stakeholders involved in the SGBV project. The Project Associate will work as part of a dynamic team and is expected to maintain close liaison with all project partners, including UNFPA.
