Project Context and Scope

IOM has been utilizing its extensive global logistics network to support aid delivery to Gaza since October 2023, leveraging its global expertise in shelter and site management. IOM supports the humanitarian cluster system by providing technical expertise to key clusters, including WASH, Shelter, and Site Management. As a global lead agency in displacement and emergency response, IOM leverages its global experience in data and research to support the Site Management Cluster with regular data collection relating to displacement and needs assessments to inform coordinated humanitarian action.

Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Crisis Coordinator in Amman and direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer and, in collaboration with relevant units including the Needs and Population Monitoring team, the Data Visualization and Design Associate will be responsible and accountable for planning, coordination, implementation of design related tasks under multiple projects for the IOM OPT Response and provide technical support to humanitarian clusters.

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract
  • Support IOM OPT programme teams in the planning, coordination, implementation of any design materials;
    • Ensure user-friendly formats, layout, and design and that all publications, reports and products are produced in line with IOM and/or relevant cluster branding /visual/ graphic guidelines;
    • Translate data into graphic elements – infographics;
    • Layout and design information and communication materials following IOM and/or relevant cluster branding guidelines;
    • Create interactive products and maps, including animations;
    • Prepare presentations, slides, visual narratives based on programme requirements,
    • Perform required data analysis and update the generated analysis results based on the reporting team requests;
    • Gather and search information for the development of content;
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in visual arts and design or any relevant field or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Master’s degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in various aspects of design, including infographics and design.
  • Proven experience in infographics, data visualization and digital design.
  • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes and color management.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Skills

Proven skills and experience with design and audio-visual programmes such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe AfterEffects and other graphic design and video software.

Languages

For this consultancy, fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
