The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 100 countries and has 18,000 staff worldwide. In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. We have over 900 team members working across the county in various professional fields.

ABOUT THE JOB

The ICRC Health Unit is seeking a highly capable Health Field Officer to join our team in Kyiv. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Health Field Officer will be responsible for implementing, running, and monitoring the health programme(s) in cooperation with the health team, according to the objectives set out in the delegation’s annual planning (planning for results) for a specific geographic area or field activities. Based on the skill required for this position, s/he has the capacity to oversee programs with a degree of autonomy (e.g. delegations with remote management) and/or deliver services with autonomy (e.g. hospital settings) and contributes to actively planning and coordinating health activities. 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the Burns Centre in collaboration with the British Red Cross and hospital management.
  • Monitor and support the clinical care provided to burn patients, offering guidance and constructive feedback to the medical team.
  • Plan and manage monthly medical donations and supplies according to the centre’s needs.
  • Facilitate training and capacity building for the clinical staff to improve patient care and rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Ensure smooth communication and liaison with authorities, donors, and other stakeholders, including translation support when needed.
  • Participate in assessments, reporting, and monitoring activities to improve hospital operations and patient care quality.
  • Support other health-related activities in the sub-delegation and contribute to emergency response as required.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful as Health Field Officer in the Health Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics: 

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine

  • Degree in medicine or nursing

  • License/certificate to practice in Ukraine

  • Qualification in public health or health management is an asset

  • Typically, 3 to 5 years of work experience (including 2 years of clinical experience)

  • At least 2 years of humanitarian experience

  • Excellent connections with local health authorities and/or groups of interest for the ICRC is desirable

  • Excellent knowledge of the assigned geographic area is an asset

  • Fluent (written and spoken) English and Ukrainian

  • Computer literate

  • Proven program management skills and team building competencies

  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles

  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn

  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision

  • Confidence in managing projects and staff

  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
