Mission and objectives

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations Public Health Organization established in 1948. The objective of the World Health Organization shall be the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health.
World Health Organization achieves its goals by performing its essential functions:
1. Take a leadership role in key health issues and create partnerships when joint action is needed;
2. Set research priorities and encourage the acquisition, application and dissemination of useful knowledge;
3. Setting standards and criteria and encouraging and monitoring them;
4. Develop ethical and evidence-based policies
5. Provide technical support, be an agent of change and build institutional capacity in a sustainable way;
6. Monitor health status and assess health trends.

Context

WHO AFRO provides leadership in public health emergencies and works with Member States and partners to protect people’s health, save lives, and strengthen resilience. Communicating WHO’s work effectively and ensuring visibility of partner contributions is critical. To enhance the impact of emergency communication, WHO AFRO seeks a UN Volunteer to support the design and production of infographics, bulletins, presentations, and visibility products. The UNV will contribute to increasing the visibility and impact of EMR’s work through high-quality design products that inform, engage, and strengthen trust with target audiences, ensuring consistency with WHO branding and donor visibility requirements.

Task description

Under the supervision of the Strategic Health Operations Centre (SHOC) Officer, the UN Volunteer will:

• Design compelling infographics and visual content for the READY AFRICA Toolkit and to present data and key messages on public health emergencies.
• Design real-time static dashboards, maps, and infographics to enhance SHOC Room situational awareness.
• Collaborate with SHOC duty officers to visualize operational data and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Design and publish engaging visuals for daily and weekly situation updates on the AFRO SHOC SharePoint site to support timely decision-making and information sharing.
• Support layout and design of the READY AFRICA Toolkit, bulletins, situation reports, and other publications.
• Develop a professional repository for the READY AFRICA Toolkit and visually engaging PowerPoint presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Produce visibility products (flyers, banners, posters, social media cards) for events, media, and campaigns.
• Ensure all products comply with WHO branding guidelines and donor visibility standards.
• Suggest innovative approaches and creative formats to enhance communications impact.
• Liaise with the regional office Translation, Interpretation and Printing (TIP) unit for printing and processing of final documents when required.
