Your team

Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre,the " ’Safety, Quality, Compliance and Security Management’  (SQCS)" service manages MUAC's safety, quality and security processes. The service is also responsible for activities required to develop and maintain the MUAC Management System including the monitoring of its operation. It ensures compliance with the applicable regulatory requirements.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Perform operational and technical safety assessments (functional hazards, human factors, failure mode, effect analysis, surveys, audits and related activities), analyse the data and apply safety methodologies and models to evaluate situations, identify issues and propose remedial actions.
  • Contribute to defining and implementing safety procedures to enhance operational safety and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in and/or lead projects related to safety initiatives, depending on the level of expertise required, ensuring proper progress tracking, execution, and reporting.
  • Participate in decision-making discussions, relating to safety activities, by providing analysis and preparing supporting material for management, (senior) experts and stakeholders and in accordance with the MUAC Management System (MMS).
  • Implement Human Factors concepts in safety assessments and contribute findings to support safety improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development of safety tools, methodologies, and procedures, contributing observations and insights under mentorship.
  • Participate in safety events (e.g., webinars, workshops, conferences) and deliver safety training or awareness sessions by contributing to the development of content, preparing materials, and delivering presentations.
  • Contribute to the production and drafting of technical/administrative working documents, reports, presentations, etc.
  • Represent MUAC in internal and European working groups (FABEC)
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completion of relevant third level studies (engineering, safety, etc.), meeting EQF Level 6 followed by at least 4 years relevant professional experience to perform the advertised responsibilities OR
  • Completion of relevant third level studies (engineering, safety, etc., meeting EQF Level 7 followed by at least 3 years relevant professional experience to carry out the advertised responsibilities.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Experience in safety management or safety engineering roles preferably within safety-critical environments (e.g. aviation, nuclear power).
  • Experience with safety management systems.
  • Experience in applying safety management methodologies and performing risk analysis (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis. - FMEA).
  • Experience with safety audits.
  • Project management skills.
  • Technical writing skills.

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of 5 Year(s) in accordance with the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. Internal staff with an undetermined appointment will keep their current type of appointment duration.
  • Renewal(s): This appointment may be renewed several times, but its total duration, including all renewal periods, may not exceed nine (9) years.
  • Conversion: Conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic. 
  • The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
  • The selected candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
