Why Work With Us?
Wavefront Security is a small, innovative company whose work directly protects organizations and non-profits advancing crucial research and data. While this role provides essential operational support rather than direct client-facing security work, your financial expertise will be a foundation that enables our team to focus on safeguarding the infrastructure of those working on important causes. This is an opportunity to contribute your skills to a purpose-driven, collaborative environment and enjoy flexible work in a part-time capacity.
Job Summary:
The Accountant plays a vital support role in maintaining the financial health and compliance of our organization. This position requires meticulous bookkeeping expertise, particularly in handling complex financial transactions such as grants, fundraising revenue, and donor contributions. You'll ensure our financial records are accurate, properly categorized, and audit-ready, while collaborating with our tax accountant and financial reporting team.
This is a highly flexible, part-time contract position ideal for a detail-oriented professional who values both technical accuracy and contributing to the cybersecurity and AI safety ecosystem. Success in this role demands integrity, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Position Type:
This is a part-time, remote-friendly contract position with an annual contract term preferred. The role requires approximately 1-3 hours per month for standard bookkeeping work, with increased hours (approximately 3-5 hours per month) during tax season collaboration periods (typically January-February).
We are also seeking to migrate our current bookkeeping system to another, more robust one. If you have comfort with that and would like to help, let us know.
Note:
Our company is starting a fundraising round in Mid March 2026. Because we’ll need to do some financial organizing at this time, if you are open to working more than 2-4 hours per month during February to support our fundraising, we’d love your expertise!
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
-
Demonstrated expertise in bookkeeping and financial record management, with meticulous attention to accuracy and detail.
-
Strong understanding of how to properly categorize and track complex revenue sources including grants, donor contributions, fundraising proceeds, and other non-traditional income streams.
-
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive financial information for a cybersecurity-focused organization.
-
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to maintain clean, balanced, and audit-ready financial records.
-
Self-directed work ethic with strong time management skills to complete monthly bookkeeping independently and efficiently.
-
Clear communication skills for collaborating with tax accountants and internal stakeholders on financial matters.
-
Comfort with adapting to different accounting software platforms and willingness to recommend solutions that balance functionality with strong privacy and data security policies.
-
Alignment with or genuine interest in nonprofit work, the AI safety community, or cybersecurity sector (preferred but not required).
-
Professional integrity and adherence to confidentiality agreements, including signing an NDA as a condition of employment.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
-
Proficiency in accounting software platforms such as Puzzle, QuickBooks, Xero, Wave, or similar tools (we are flexible and open to transitioning to software that works best for you, provided it meets our privacy standards).
-
Experience with grant accounting, donor fund tracking, and properly categorizing complex revenue and expense transactions.
-
Working knowledge of general bookkeeping principles including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliation, and month-end close processes.
-
Familiarity with preparing financial records for tax preparation and collaborating with tax professionals.
-
Understanding of nonprofit or small business accounting practices is highly valued.
Education & Experience:
-
Certified Bookkeeper (CB) from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience in bookkeeping and financial record management.
-
Minimum of 2-3 years professional experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
-
Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant management, fundraising, or small business/startup environments is a strong plus.

-
You've worked with nonprofit or grant-funded organizations and understand how to properly categorize restricted funds, donor contributions, and fundraising revenue.
