Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission/ Officer-in-Charge, and reporting directly to the Reintegration Officer, the incumbent will assist the implementation and monitoring of activities for the project titled “Strengthening the Reintegration of Returnees in The Gambia (STRONG) at the Community level’’. The project aims at providing community-based reintegration assistance through community-based reintegration initiatives and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services targeting both returnees and community members. The project also seeks to strengthen the capacities of both state and non-state actors to contribute effectively to reintegration processes. This initiative is funded under the European Union’s Flexible Mechanism for Migration and Forced Displacement.

Working in close coordination with the Project team and other thematic areas of IOM The Gambia, the incumbent will assist with capacity building activities of local stakeholders, particularly at the community level, contributing to initiatives that benefit returnees and their communities.

Responsibilities

  1. Support community needs assessments and assist in preparing community action plans for local projects.

  2. Maintain project data and records, including required data entry in MiMOSA and other databases.”

  3. Assist in organizing orientation sessions for returnees and community members to support a smooth socioeconomic reintegration.

  4. Assist in organizing and delivering capacity‑building trainings for beneficiaries and partners to support project sustainability.

  5. Assist in organizing meetings and workshops, and draft clear TORs, agendas, and reports.

  6. Update project records and participate in regular field visits to track beneficiary and community project progress.

  7. Assist in drafting weekly progress updates, quarterly/annual reports; keep track of best practices and lessons learned to improve the quality of the intervention/project.

  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High school diploma with four years of relevant experience; or,

  • Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Experience supporting activities involving migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups.

  • Prior work experience with government authorities, international humanitarian organizations, United Nations agencies, international organizations and non-governmental organizations in a multi-cultural setting, including experience liaising with relevant stakeholders, is an advantage. 
  • Experience supporting project implementation to protection-related activities in The Gambia.
  • Experience supporting protection monitoring and case management activities.

Skills

  • Knowledge of migration-related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.

  • Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.

  • Knowledge of basic financial rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of providing protection assistance to vulnerable migrants and experience with case management.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in MS Office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Outlook etc.
  • Good reporting writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MIMOSA is an advantage.

Languages

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English (oral and written) and one local language is required
