Organizational Setting
The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.
The Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation Section (D&ERS) assists Member States with building their capacity to decommission any nuclear related facilities and environmental remediation of any sites contaminated with radioactive material, including NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material). It cooperates with other sections and especially with the two teams in WTS in charge of radioactive waste management (pre-disposal and disposal). Efforts are focused mainly on the elaboration and implementation of comprehensive and integrated decommissioning and environmental remediation policies and strategies, the development of supporting infrastructure, the promotion of good practices for sustainable, safe and cost-effective project planning, implementation and completion; enabling access to current scientific and technological developments, along with the provision of direct assistance through the technical cooperation programme.
Main Purpose
Under the guidance of the Section Head, the Environmental Remediation Officer contributes to project activities, supports the development of international guidelines, helps design and deliver training programmes, assists Member States in improving their environmental remediation capabilities, and provides technical assistance upon request.
Role
The Environmental Remediation Officer is\: (1) a team member assisting in planning and developing the Agency's programme in an area of environmental remediation; (2) a (co) scientific secretary planning and leading moderately complex Technical Meetings; (3) a technical and project officer evaluating moderately complex Technical Cooperation (TC) projects and co-ordinating and evaluating moderately complex Research Projects (CRPs) in the area of environmental remediation.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Assists in planning and organizing meetings and activities in environmental remediation, including supporting the preparation of scopes, identifying participants, and co-ordinating the preparation of reports and meeting documents.
Supports the planning and implementation of review missions, preparatory meetings and follow-up activities related to environmental remediation needs and provides technical input to mission reports.
Contributes to the evaluation of TC projects, assists in developing action plans, participates in seminars, workshops, expert missions and training courses.
Assists in coordinating of CRPs in Member States and contributes to studies and assessments related to issues and trends. Supports the development of technical guidance and recommendations to address Member States' needs in environmental remediation.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Bachelor's Degree - University degree in environmental science or in a related technical or scientific discipline. Masterâs degree is an asset.
Minimum of five years' experience in environmental remediation and waste management or related activities, of which two years of experience in the management of moderately complex operational projects.
Experience of working in a national/international nuclear organization or institute desirable.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71335 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 37166, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
