Organizational Setting
The Division of Information Technology provides support to the IAEA in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), including information systems for technical programmes and management. It is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an ICT strategy, for setting and enforcing common ICT standards throughout the Secretariat and for managing central ICT services. The IAEA's ICT infrastructure comprises hardware and software platforms, and cloud and externally-hosted services. The Division has implemented an IT service management model based on ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and Prince2 (Projects in a Controlled Environment) best practices.
The IAEA is accelerating the implementation of key initiatives under its data strategy (roadmap), with a strong focus on modernizing its data infrastructure and governance. Central to this effort is the deployment of Data Lakehouse solutions, the development of a comprehensive data catalogue, and the identification and analysis of data use cases across all business programs. These initiatives are critical to strengthening the Agency's data platform capabilities, enhancing data governance practices, and maximizing the strategic and operational impact of its data assets.
Main Purpose
Under the supervision of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and working closely with the Data Architect, Platform Engineer, and business stakeholders, the incumbent will support the Agency's data transformation agenda through project-based assignments. This role focuses on data engineering, analytics, and light AIML development, complementing the Platform Engineer who manages Snowflake infrastructure and platform stability.
Functions / Key Results Expected
1. Design, develop, and maintain scalable ELT/ETL pipelines in Snowflake to ingest, transform, and serve data from diverse internal and external sources as part of project-based data engineering work. 2. Collaborate with the Data Architect and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust data models and efficient SQL transformations. 3. Implement data quality frameworks, perform data validation, and ensure reliability across the data lifecycle. 4. Support the development and maintenance of the Agency's Data Lakehouse architecture, including data ingestion, integration, and optimization. 5. Create and maintain documentation for data pipelines, lineage, and metadata to support governance and discoverability. 6. Develop dashboards and visualizations (Power BI, Tableau) to communicate insights to business users. 7. Contribute to data cataloguing, metadata management, and adherence to data governance frameworks. 8. Apply machine learning techniques to extract actionable insights from various data forms within project assignments. 9. Support CDO and business units to identify opportunities for predictive and prescriptive analytics. 10. Assist in building and deploying proof-of-concept ML models, with a focus on scalability and integration into data pipelines. 11. Contribute to the exploration of AI/ML use cases aligned with IAEA's strategic goals.
