About this position
We are looking for a proactive, client-oriented, and dynamic Sustainable Cities Program Consultant. As a Sustainable Amazon Cities Consultant, you will provide strategic, technical, and operational support to advance two key workstreams within the Housing and Urban Development Division, including the implementation of the Sustainable Amazon Cities agenda and the coordination of activities related to the Amazon Cities Forum, the Amazonia Working Group of Minurvi, and knowledge production on sustainable urban development in the Amazon.
You will work in the Housing and Urban Development Division, part of the Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CSD) Department. This team is responsible for supporting the “Sustainable Cities, Infrastructure, and Connectivity” component of the IDB Amazonia Forever program, strengthening local governments’ and city leaders’ capacities in urban management and planning, climate action, project design, and resource mobilization, while promoting regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and strategic partnerships to advance sustainable urban development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
What you’ll do
- Provide technical support for the design of the workplan and strategy, e.g. proposing new topics and activities related to sustainable urban development, climate change, subnational finance, and others. Collaborate in the identification, preparation, and assessment of new activities related to those topics.
- Provide technical and operational support in the execution and management of Technical Cooperation (TC) projects. The consultant will advise, review, and validate deliverables to ensure the quality of TCs products, contribute to project evaluation and impact assessments.
- Coordinate the liaison with external stakeholders to promote IDB’s work, strengthen collaborations, and facilitate knowledge exchange and innovation to address the challenges faced by LAC cities. Provide inputs for conceptualization, structuring and execution of cooperation agreements with networks, sub-networks, and other organizations interested in carrying out strategic alliances.
- Support the integration of IDB Cities Network and Sustainable and Resilient Amazon cities initiatives with other Sectors of the bank.
- Design, develop, and implement in-person and virtual capacity building programs and other convenings related to the topics of work.
- Research, systematize and disseminate relevant findings on urban themes, climate change and other strategic priorities that contribute to the design and development of knowledge products.
What you'll need
• Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in international development, international relations or urban development or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role
• Experience: At least 5 years of progressive professional experience in project management, with proven experience applying theoretical and practical knowledge in urban development in LAC.
• Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of Portuguese is preferable.

International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
