Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Context The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, UNEP has a network of country and regional offices facilitating the relevant country and regional processes and coordinating coherent delivery of UNEP's programme aimed at addressing the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNEP's Regional Office for Africa (ROA) support to Africa and the African countries is guided by reforms of the UN Development System (UNDS) including the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) and UN Country Team (UNCT) systems. The Regional Development Coordination (RDC) unit leads this work in ROA. The intern will be based in UNEP/ROA at the Nairobi duty station and will support the implementation of activities aimed at achieving these objectives. Duties and Responsibilities The intern will work with the RDC unit, and the position will contribute to supporting the RDC unit with the following tasks: Support the drafting of minutes of the RDC unit meetings. Undertake research for background papers for meetings and reports of RDC engagement with the UNRC and UNCT systems. Draft speaking points for use in meetings and processes coordinated by the RDC unit. Collect, collate, and analyse statistics related to UNEP’s engagement with UNRCs and UNCTs in Africa. Develop presentations for RDC engagement and Meetings with UNRC and UNCT systems in Africa. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

First university degree in a field related to environment science, conservation, natural resource management, engineering, project management, economics or related fields Interest in international level sustainable development and implementation programmes, projects and activities is desirable. Computer skills, drafting/writing skills, ability to establish and maintain effective working relations within multicultural working environment, adaptability, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French and another official United Nations language is desirable
