We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative communicator interested in gaining hands-on experience communicating science to a science-interested, mainstream audience. The successful candidate would be based at EMBL’s headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, working closely with comms colleagues across EMBL’s six sites and other EMBL staff spread throughout the organisation. 

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to produce social media, written, and multimedia content to be used across a variety of channels. They will also carry out social media monitoring and provide analytics for measuring performance and impact on EMBL platforms. Additionally, they will have opportunities to let their creativity guide them in other science communication pursuits that fit within EMBL’s strategic communications goals.

Your role

  • Supporting EMBL’s social media presence, specifically monitoring, creating, and posting content for EMBL channels on LinkedIn, Bluesky, and X

  • Researching and developing written and visual content for external and internal communications, such as news articles, interviews, and internal announcements

  • Providing social media analytics

  • Creating graphics from templates and uploading digital content

  • Video editing, including the application of existing templates 

You have 

  • current visa to work/study in Germany, for non-EU citizens

  • a bachelor's or higher degree in communications, journalism, or a relevant scientific discipline

  • excellent English writing and communication skills

  • the ability to extract key messages from materials and articulate them in engaging ways 

  • experience in creating content for and running social media accounts

  • flexibility in working in a team and keeping track of multiple deadlines

  • an interest and genuine enthusiasm for the marvels of science
     

You may also have

  • experience working in institutional communications, science outreach, or related fields
  • experience in video creation and editing
  • experience in creating digital and social media assets using industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • knowledge of other European languages, especially German
     

Contract length: 6 months

Salary: 1500 EUR per month
