Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for an Emergency Assistant based in Kharkiv covering DRC activities in Kharkiv and Donetsk Oblasts.
About the job:
Under the technical and daily supervision of the Emergency Manager, the Emergency Assistant supports the planning and implementation of emergency assistance activities (cash assistance, non-food items, and winterization), ensuring efficiency and adherence to work plans.
The role involves carrying out tasks under supervision and contributes to effective program implementation through participation in field missions, data collection, beneficiary registration, distribution activities, and documentation.
The Emergency Assistant also supports engagement with communities, local service providers, and internal departments to ensure proper coordination and referrals, while adhering to organizational procedures and standards.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Programming & Implementation:
- Carry out tasks related to the planning and implementation of emergency assistance activities (cash assistance, non-food items, and winterization), ensuring efficiency and adherence to work plans.
- Participate in needs assessments, beneficiary registration, and field missions in communities and collective sites.
- Prepare and maintain documentation packages for beneficiary payments and distributions, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Participate in program activities in Kharkiv and Donetsk Oblasts, including field operations, monitoring, and implementation support.
Coordination and Community Engagement:
- Support engagement with community representatives, key informants, and beneficiaries to strengthen DRC’s area-based approach.
- Coordinate with other DRC departments to facilitate referrals and information sharing.
- Support collaboration with local service providers and partners during field activities.
Data & Documentation:
- Collect and analyze data on beneficiaries to support evidence-based programs.
- Ensure proper archiving, secure storage, and confidentiality of beneficiary data.
- Maintain distribution, stock, and inventory trackers, and report regularly to the Emergency Manager.
Logistics & Field Support:
- Assist in preparation for field missions and in implementing movement plans in coordination with the Emergency Manager.
- Support safe handling and distribution of non-food items, ensuring accountability for stocks and assets.
- Facilitate the organization of distributions and maintain proper documentation.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a minimum of 1 year relevant practical experience in sector area working for an NGO. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required:
- Relevant university degree (e.g. political science, international development, or economics) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience with following standard procedures and guidelines.
- Field experience.
- Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in local language.
Desirable:
- Advanced English proficiency desirable.
