ECR Communications and Marketing is looking for an experienced writer and speechwriter to support the World Bank President in communicating the Bank Group’s strategic priorities to internal and external audiences, while also contributing to broader writing and editorial needs across ECR. The role is responsible for producing high-quality communications products—including speeches, talking points, briefing notes, op-eds, and staff messages—translating complex policy material, technical information, and economic data into clear, accessible language that reflects the President’s voice and aligns with World Bank Group priorities. Working closely with the Office of the President and colleagues across ECR and the World Bank Group, the position ensures consistency of messaging, provides editorial guidance on key initiatives, and supports a range of corporate communications efforts in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
This is an Extended Term Full-Time Consultancy for one year. The job is based in Washington, D.C. The successful candidate is expected to work in the office a minimum of 4 days a week.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Draft, edit, and revise written materials for the World Bank Group President, including speeches, talking points, briefing notes, op-eds, and internal communications products.
• Translate complex policy material, technical information, and economic data into clear, concise, and jargon-free content for diverse internal and external audiences.
• Work closely with the Office of the President, senior leadership, and subject matter experts across the World Bank Group to develop accurate, well-informed communications materials.
• Monitor current events, public discourse, and emerging issues to inform messaging and ensure relevance and timeliness of written products.
• Support broader ECR writing and editorial needs, including messaging for corporate initiatives, campaigns, reports, and other materials as needed.
• Provide editorial guidance and quality control to ensure consistency of voice, style, and messaging across ECR and alignment with World Bank Group standards.
• Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, working independently while collaborating across teams and seeking guidance as needed.
Selection Criteria
• Master’s degree in International Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, or other related disciplines, with 8 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Proven track record of speechwriting for leaders in the private sector, development agencies, government, and/or international organizations. • Superior writing and editing skills, with an excellent command of English and the demonstrated ability to translate technical information into clear language for a broad audience. • Solid understanding of international development issues as well as clear knowledge of World Bank audiences and their communications needs. • Strong organizational and coordination skills. • Ability to initiate and manage a continuing editorial process and to conceptualize and execute the packaging of content. • Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, and collaborative skills; ability to work as part of a team in a diverse, multicultural environment as well as independently; demonstrated client orientation.
