About the Job
The Liaison Officer is responsible for ensuring the proper application of DRC’s Safety Risk Management System (SRMS) under the direction of the Head of Safety (HoS). The Safety Liaison Specialist (SLS) will identify a range of risks in the context DRC operates and provide advice on how best to mitigate these risks. The SLS will conduct safety risk assessments at the office/project site level with support and guidance from HoS, daily briefings and context assessments as well as cultural briefings and will travel to the field at short notice to assist the projects where needed. Under the direction of the Head of Safety, the SLS will manage improvements to the infrastructure in DRC compounds and field sites and will make recommendations to the field teams in close cooperation with the Country Safety Coordinator. Safety Liaison Specialist is responsible to represent DRC positively, monitor the overall safety and security situation, enforce safety and security regulations and provide sound and timely advice to DRC staff and management in order to support the safe and efficient delivery of programme activities in the designated area of operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on safety matters and provide timely reports.
- Develop local safety plans and conduct safety risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and emergency plans.
- Supervise guards and oversee safety equipment and procedures.
- Liaise with security stakeholders and negotiate access when needed.
- Plan and deliver safety awareness training.
- Submit regular situational reports.
Qualifications & Experience:
- At least 5 years with an international organization; 2 years in field safety roles.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and crisis response skills.
- Flexible, calm under pressure, and field travel-ready.
- Fluent in English, Juba Arabic, and one South Sudanese language.
- Desirable: medical experience and MS Office proficiency.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
