About this position

We are looking for an experienced, innovative, and knowledgeable Acquisitions Librarian & Holdings Consultant. As an Acquisitions and Holdings Librarian Consultant, you will play a key role in managing the acquisitions and weeding of physical and digital library holdings, as well as on-boarding new library staff.

You will work in the Felipe Herrera Library, which operates within the Knowledge and Learning Division. This dynamic team is responsible for curating, maintaining, and enhancing the IDB’s extensive digital and physical library collections. It also oversees the management and development of both physical and digital spaces where users can access, explore, and utilize these knowledge assets.

What you’ll do

  • Manage the digitization of physical resources, ensuring strict quality control standards are met.
  • Complete technical processing of collection holdings in backlog, including cataloging and labeling
  • Conduct knowledge sharing activities and documentation to support new Library staff
  • Support the service delivery with external vendors of library subscriptions and on-board Library staff regarding related processes
  • Carry out acquisitions-related activities, including weeding, to manage the relevance of library holdings
  • Support the re-opening of the physical library space to patrons, including the holdings related activities, as well as those related to events and outreach efforts.

What you'll need

•    Education: Master (or equivalent advanced degree) in Library Sciences, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.

•    Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in library acquisitions and related tasks.

•    Languages:  Proficiency in English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

International consultant Full-Time, 6.5 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
