For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), UN Volunteers with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service in IOM, staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
 

Context

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Editorial, under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer (Thematic) and technical supervision of the Private Sector Partnerships Division’s (PSP) Head of Strategic Support, the Communications Associate (Content Developer and Curator) is accountable and responsible for supporting the private sector fundraising and individual giving stategies through sourcing, producing and curating high-quality, high volume, engaging, audience focused content across digital platforms. The role will involve collaboration with various teams, departments, and external partners to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of IOM’s fundraising efforts. 

The Department of Media and Communications (DMC) at IOM is dedicated to managing and promoting global communications efforts across IOM Headquarters in Geneva and regional offices worldwide. The DMC provides essential media relations support, manages IOM’s global social media presence, curates content, drives branding, and leads global awareness campaigns. As the communications team grows and evolves, there is a need to further develop the creation of compelling and engaging content that captures the work and impact of IOM.

The PSP builds partnerships with the private sector that enable IOM's strategic priorities and engage the private sector as a key stakeholder in migration through impactful and innovative partnerships. PSP leads strategic outreach and engagement with the private sector and provides Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing and maintaining partnerships with the private sector. PSP is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Strategy which provides a framework for how IOM engages with the private sector to support safe, orderly and regular migration. PSP oversees engagement with the private sector, establishes and coordinates IOM’s private sector partnerships due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building and oversees the Goodwill Ambassador programme and celebrity engagement programme.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Enable fundraising by sourcing content designed to engage fundraising target audiences aligned with strategy, messaging, and campaign plans.

  2. Support the content needs of Goodwill Ambassadors, celebrities, influencers and corporate partners and enable them to maximise their reach to private sector audiences.

  3. Review fundraising plans across communications and fundraising teams and proactively collate, produce, write, and edit a wide range of multi-media content to utilise in upper funnel awareness and engagement activity and that can be converted into lower funnel advertising creative.

  4. Create, build, curate and manage a media library designed to support the fundraising efforts of IOM across global, regional and key market teams, sourcing and where required developing new content designed to engage fundraising target audiences, in line with individual giving and wider private sector fundraising strategy, messaging, campaign plans and briefs.

  5. Work closely with the Private Sector Division, Editorial, Digital, and Multimedia teams to ensure consistency in messaging, audience relevance, high-quality output, and alignment with IOM’s global communications and fundraising strategies.

  6. Based on private sector fundraising plans, key messages and campaign briefs, identify and craft compelling narratives around IOM’s work, including stories from the field, staff, and beneficiaries. Focus on human-centred storytelling that highlights the dignity and resilience of migrants and communities.

  7. Create awareness and engagement multimedia content that resonates with diverse fundraising audiences for social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube to amplify IOM’s message.

  8. Support the development of paid media fundraising advertising creative through a constant flow of relevant content to specialist fundraising teams.

  9. Assist the private sector fundraising teams in the development and execution of digital campaigns, events, and public awareness initiatives. As a part of relevant PSP project teams, contribute to the planning of fundraising communications strategies around key IOM activities and initiatives.

  10. Support the preparation of press materials, including press releases, media pitches, and briefings designed to support fundraising activities to key audiences. Coordinate with the Department of Media and Communications to ensure that key messages are communicated effectively to journalists.

  11. Alongside the Online Communications Unit and Private Sector Fundraising Teams, monitor content engagement and performance across IOM’s digital platforms, reporting on key metrics such as reach, engagement, and audience feedback. Use insights to improve content, results, and strategy.

  12. Ensure that IOM’s content aligns with organizational branding guidelines, fundraising requirements and private sector audience insights, and maintains consistency in messaging. Ensure all communication materials reflect IOM’s values and mission.

  13. Stay up-to-date with digital content trends, social media developments, and best practices in content creation. Recommend new ideas and innovative approaches to enhance IOM’s communication efforts.

  14. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Design, or a related field with two years of relevant professional experience; or,

  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Professional experience in content creation, writing, digital communications, or media production, preferably in an international or non-profit context;

  • Experience managing and curating media libraries;

  • Proven ability to craft compelling written content for various digital platforms, including websites, social media, and multimedia formats;

  • Strong knowledge of digital media trends and platforms, with experience managing social media accounts;

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, high-volume communications and fundraising content under tight deadlines; and,

  • Experience working with individual giving fundraising teams and supporting the delivery of marketing and campaign plans through the sourcing, creation and curation of fundraising focused content.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft messages for diverse audiences;

  • Knowledge of private sector fundraising and the role that communications and brand teams play in supporting fundraising results;

  • Strong storytelling ability, with a keen eye for detail and creative approaches to content creation;

  • Familiarity with social media tools, digital platforms, and analytics tools;

  • Ability to work collaboratively, managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering on time; and,

  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS), multimedia editing tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Languages

All staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM’s official languages (English, French, and Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
