Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Office of IOM Finland and in close coordination with the Senior Resource Mobilization Officer based in Copenhagen, as well as the Media and Communications Associate based in Helsinki, the successful candidate will support in writing, researching, editing, sourcing, collating, and/or rewriting news stories, press briefing notes and web features related to IOM’s work with a distinct focus on Sweden, and assist with editing and publishing items on IOM Finland’s website and social media channels.

Responsibilities

  1. Contribute to the development of a Country media/communications strategy for Sweden in line with relevant institutional frameworks and guidelines.

  2. Assist in the production of information sheets, speeches, and presentations. Draft written content such as press releases, feature stories or articles.

  3. Contribute to build and maintain a strong network amongst local and international journalists and monitor local and international media as well as social media for mentions of IOM and content relevant to IOM’s work funded by Sweden.

  4. Produce regular media and social media content and assist in the management of IOM Sweden’s presence on different social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram). Compile analytics of CO social media platforms and website.

  5. Support the management and maintenance of IOM Sweden’s website in accordance with IOM global rules and requirements, ensuring that it represents all relevant areas of IOM’s work in an attractive and accessible way. 

  6. Assist the Head of Office and other colleagues by building media presence capacities, preparing talking points and media lines to take, and sharing updated facts and figures ahead of interviews and other media engagements, such as press briefings and requests for comment.

  7. Contribute to organization of events and trainings,  maintaining proper visibility support.

  8. Assist with newsletters and email invitations design and mailout. 

  9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • University degree in Media and Communications, Graphic Design, Public Information, Journalism, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience;

    OR:

  • High School Degree Certificate from an accredited academic institution with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven, successful experience in using media and social media for advocacy, public information, and furthering understanding and knowledge about an organization and its mandate, preferably with a focus on humanitarian assistance and migration;

  • Proven experience in producing compelling pictures and video content.

  • High level of professionalism and ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines. 

  • Experience developing and disseminating digital content for websites and social media for international organizations, government or non-governmental organizations. 

  • In-depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization is desirable.

  • Experience in working in an international environment and matrix organization is an advantage.

  • Experience working with Sweden-based media outlets is an advantage.

SKILLS

  • Excellent and proven creative writing and editing skills, including the ability to write well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and the ability to write compellingly for different audiences.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • High level of computer literacy;
  • Familiarity with design and/or editing tools is an advantage.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in multicultural and multilingual environments 

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks 

LANGUAGES

  • For this position, fluency in English and Swedish is required (oral and written)
  • Working knowledge of other Nordic languages or of languages spoken by main migrant groups in the Nordics is considered advantageous
