The Senior Industry Specialists sit within the Knowledge Bank at the WBG which ensures that the WBG’s knowledge - one of our most valuable offerings to clients - works seamlessly across institutions (IDA/IBRD, IFC, MIGA). We are seeking to hire an experienced gas and LNG professional, to be based in Washington, DC, United States, to provide expert technical and market advice on multiple gas and LNG opportunities including FSRU terminals, gas pipelines and distribution networks, gas processing and gas flare reduction projects.

Duties and Accountabilities:

•  Support IFC’s investment decision making process by providing technical and techno-commercial expertise to undertake the appraisal of gas and LNG investment transactions. Such appraisals can include site visits, hiring and supervision of external consultants such as lender’s engineers, review of major contracts, assessing / proposing key technical inputs for incorporation in financial models, and preparing reports summarizing and assessing technical risk.
•  Collaborate with WBG internal teams, including investment officers, task team leaders, environmental and social specialists, and legal counsel, to deliver high-quality reviews, appraisals and recommendations for potential WBG projects.
•  Support portfolio management by monitoring all technical aspects of portfolio gas & LNG investments throughout construction and on into operation. This includes review of periodic construction or operations reports, periodic field inspections or other measures as necessary to address or resolve specific problems or issues. 
•  Conduct market analysis and provide thought leadership on emerging trends, technologies, and policies in the gas and LNG industries, contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives within WBG and externally.
•  Contribute to the development and execution of WBG’s sector strategies, including the integration of gas and LNG solutions into broader energy transition and climate resilience frameworks.
•  Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including private sector clients, government agencies, and development partners, to promote IFC’s role in the global gas and LNG sectors.

Selection Criteria

•  Advanced degree (master’s or higher) in engineering or a closely related field.
•  Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the global gas and LNG sector, including roles such as senior engineer or CTO within an International Oil Company (IOC) or an engineering consultancy. A proven track record of delivering impactful results in a variety of different locations including in developing economies.
•  Strong technical knowledge of gas and LNG infrastructure, supply chains and emerging technologies in the sector together with expertise in project development and project finance. 
•  Familiarity with commercial and contractual norms relating to supply of gas and LNG including GSAs, LNG SPAs, LNG terminal TUAs, gas-fired PPAs, gas pipeline TSAs and other standard industry commercial documents, including an understanding of how technical and gas quality aspects link to pricing formulae and other commercial contractual content. Related in experience in CCUS would be an additional benefit. 
•  High level knowledge of trends in global LNG and regional gas markets is a plus, especially related to the position of gas-fired power generation in competitive markets in Europe, Latin America and other places where wholesale competitive power markets have been implemented.
•  Experience with competitive fuel analysis especially across natural gas, diesel, HFO, LPG and other hydrocarbons used in power generation is a plus. This would include a general familiarity with how these products are priced in various jurisdictions whether by market forces or by various non-market approaches.
•  Commitment to sustainability and climate goals, with a deep understanding of the role of gas and LNG in the energy transition.
•  Capacity to deal with conflicting priorities and deliver high quality work on schedule; ability to work successfully in multicultural teams.
•  Highly motivated and proactive, committed to highest ethical standards.
•  Willingness and ability to travel for work.
•  Fluent in English; Spanish and/or French are a plus.
