Organizational Context and Scope

Sudan is at the centre of migration routes from the Horn of Africa and West Africa towards North Africa and onwards to Europe and the Middle East. In line with IOM’s mandate, IOM Sudan works to uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants and to advance the understanding of migration issues in the region. Since Jan 2025, IOM has operated a Migrant Resource and Response Centre (MRRC) in Port Sudan. MRRC acts as a centre for information and services to migrants. The services provided are based on IOM’s Case Management guidelines, carried out both directly and through referrals to partners. The main services include basic medical assistance, psychosocial support, Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) to stranded and vulnerable migrants to return to their countries of origin. The Port Sudan MRRC mobile response team also provide assistance to migrants who are not able to approach the MRRC in person. Timely and proactive communication with beneficiaries and effective coordination with MRRC Port Sudan partners, including relevant government and non-governmental agencies and representatives of migrant communities, are essential elements to the well-functioning MRRC in Port Sudan.

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager and the direct supervision of the MRRC Senior Program Associate, and in close coordination with relevant colleagues at IOM Sudan and Port Sudan MRRC partners, the successful candidate will be responsible for:  

Responsibilities

1.    Assist in consolidation and scale-up of the MRRC operation in red sea state. This includes supporting the process to identify IOM’s referral partners to provide assistance to vulnerable migrants and engage with migrant communities in the state to garner their support for the MRRC Red Sea activities.
2.    Support in carrying out IOM case management approach and conduct interviews with vulnerable migrants, including potential victims of trafficking, who either visit the MRRC or are referred by partner organizations, and  refer eligible beneficiaries to appropriate MRRC partners when necessary
3.    Use Migrant Resource Centre Information Management System (MRC IS) and compile case reports for beneficiaries and prepare statistical reports and analysis, while adhering to IOM data protection standards
4.    Collect and record of beneficiary data and manage case files and create new case files when required adhering to IOM case management approach
5.    Collaborate with relevant colleagues to document, refine, and effectively communicate best practices and lessons learned in providing direct assistance to vulnerable migrants
6.    Carry out administrative tasks of the MRRC including organization of community events, information sessions and workshops with different stakeholders.
7.    Conduct follow-up with MRRC beneficiaries and coordinate with partners as necessary to monitor the assistance provided, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
8.    Support the Programme Assistant (AVRR) to carry out Due Diligence Process on RR (DPP on RR) for the provision of AVRR to stranded and vulnerable migrants in the States through communication with the MRRC AVRR team in other locations and necessary coordination with the local authorities
9.    Provide a comprehensive range of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services either directly or in coordination with partners to individuals and communities affected by distress and crisis
10.    Perform such other duties as may be required. 
 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High School diploma with four years of relevant experience
  • University degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience
     

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Experience in working directly with vulnerable groups, such as IDPs, migrants or victims of trafficking, preferably with UN agencies, other international organizations, international or local NGOs.

    • Knowledge or practical experience with protection mechanisms, MHPSS support, social work and case management is a distinct advantage.

    • Experience in community engagement activities.

    • Knowledge of or experience in working on migration issues and/or with vulnerable migrants in Red Sea or States in Sudan is a distinct advantage.

  • Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork in a methodical way; 

  • Discreet, details and clients-oriented, patient and willingness to learn new things.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  •  Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to draft clear and concise correspondence, reports, and documentation.

Languages

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of other languages like Amharic/ Tigrinya is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
