Position Title: Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) Liaison Coordinator

Duty Station: Kyiv

Start Date: ASAP

Type of Appointment: Official employment under a fixed-term contract until 11.12.2026 with the possibility of extension.

Probation period: 3 months

MAG is international organization who has been delivering explosive ordnance clearance and risk education globally for over 30 years in over 34 countries. MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

Our mission:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missiles, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response.  MAG seeks to save lives and build safer futures by providing risk education to communities, to help them stay safe. MAG is also in the process of seeking accreditation to start conducting explosive ordnance disposal and demining activities in Ukraine, to save the lives of people affected by the conflict.

The Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) Liaison Coordinator is responsible for coordinating WAM activities, maintaining strong relationships with government authorities and key stakeholders, and supporting the implementation of MAG projects in line with international standards (MOSAIC, IATG). The role contributes to enhancing safety and security through effective weapons management, technical assessments, and delivery of training to stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain effective coordination with key stakeholders (Ministry of Interior, National Police and other partners).
  • Coordinate WAM (Weapons and Ammunition Management) activities in line with MAG standards and procedures.
  • Organise and facilitate meetings with stakeholders, ensuring their engagement and understanding of MAG’s role.
  • Monitor communication and manage correspondence related to WAM activities.
  • Conduct technical assessments (including mobile armouries) under the supervision of the technical lead.
  • Prepare and deliver training sessions for partners and stakeholders.
  • Prepare weekly reports outlining completed activities, challenges, and upcoming plans.
  • Contribute to planning processes and continuous improvement of MAG project outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with MOSAIC, IATG standards and MAG internal procedures.
  • Follow Health, Safety and Security requirements during all activities.

Requirements:

  • Higher education (preferably in a relevant field);

  • Strong understanding of internal government mechanisms and approval processes in Ukraine (key priority);

  • Background in police, military, or defence sector — highly desirable;

  • Experience in WAM operations management or coordination;

  • Experience in delivering trainings and knowledge transfer;

  • Strong organisational and coordination skills;

  • Ability to develop and follow operational and safety procedures;

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills;

  • Confident PC user (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

  • Experience working with international or humanitarian organisations will be an advantage.

  • Languages:

    • Ukrainian — fluent (spoken and written); 

    • English — 

      not lower than Upper-Intermediate (B2).
