Duties and Responsibilities
The international Trade Centre is the joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, which provides technical assistance and capacity building to policymakers, the private sector and trade and investment support organisations to help them use trade as an engine for sustainable growth and employment generation. ITC works to support the achievement of the sustainable Development Goals by connecting micro, small and medium enterprises to global value chains. By enabling small business export success in developing countries, ITC helps generate sustainable incomes and livelihoods, especially for women and youth while taking into consideration sustainable elements such as the environment and social responsibility. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES ITC is seeking a motivated intern to support the Digital Communications team for a period of three months with possibility of extension up to a maximum of six months. The internship will provide hands-on experience in digital communications, website content management, library cataloguing, and graphic design. The intern will assist with day-to-day operational tasks and contribute to improving the accessibility, organization, and visual presentation of ITC’s digital content. The objective of this internship is to support the Digital Communications team in maintaining and enhancing ITC’s digital platforms and knowledge resources, while gaining practical experience in digital communications workflows. Under the supervision of the Public Information Officer (Digital Communications), the selected candidate is expected to: 1. Website IT and Content Management Support • Assist with uploading and updating content on the ITC website • Support formatting and layout of web pages • Help ensure accessibility compliance (alt text, headings, document tagging) • Assist in troubleshooting minor website content issues • Support quality assurance checks (broken links, formatting, metadata) • Assist with organizing and maintaining digital assets and files • Support with data analysis and reporting 2. Library Cataloguing Support • Assist in cataloguing publications and knowledge products • Support metadata entry and tagging of documents • Help organize digital library resources and archives • Assist with document classification and filing 3. Graphic Design Support • Assist in creating visual assets for web and social media • Support design of banners, infographics, and digital graphics • Support visual content preparation for campaigns and events 4. Qualifications/special skills
a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of the first university degree programme in computer science, information management or related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); OR b) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);OR c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation. • No work experience is required. • Any relevant experience in a similar field is an advantage. Skills • Website front end/back-end tools: html, CSS, JavaScript, React, Vue.js, Bootstrap, PHP, Javascript, Django, Flash, Git. • Website content management systems (CMS) (e.g., Drupal, WordPress or similar) • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) • Graphic design tools: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) Canva or equivalent • Document formatting and layout skills • Basic knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., alt text, accessible PDFs) • Metadata and content organization skills • File management and digital asset organization
Languages
Advanced knowledge of English or French is required. Working knowledge of the other language is desirable.
