Job Overview:
Reporting to the Emergency EH/WASH Officer, the Emergency EH/Hygiene promotion Assistant will be responsible for the day to day implementation of community mobilization, hygiene promotion, and community capacity building activities in Gaza strip. The position requires planning and implementing of community mobilization and hygiene promotion activities; preparation of IEC, BCC materials, preparation and delivery of different trainings to hygiene promoters, and conduct hygiene and sanitation campaigns. He/she also is responsible to identify gaps and facilitate technical trainings for relevant local partners and other related capacity building activities in his assigned area area also Facilitate the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of water rehabilitation and sanitation activities
Reporting Relationships And Coordination
Reports to: Emergency EH/WASH Officer
Technically Supervises: Provides technical support to community groups such as WASH committees and hygiene volunteers.
Coordination
Deliver appropriate training and capacity-strengthening opportunities to beneficiaries, community leaders, WASH Committees and hygiene volunteers
Coordinates WASH interventions with Emergency EH/WASH Officer and other IRC sector-leads, Field Management, and support departments.
Roles And Responsibilities
Serve as the focal point for all activities related to Environmental Health (EH) hygiene promotion/community mobilization in the field office
Conduct assessments, planning, organizing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the community hygiene promotion
Participate in conducting the appropriate Environmental Health (EH) Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) surveys during survey design, data collection, data entry, analysis and reporting in order to monitor and evaluate the impact of EH and hygiene promotion activities
Facilitate in the selection, designing, pre-testing, developing, dissemination and evaluation of appropriate hygiene educational materials for effective hygiene promotion program;
Facilitate in organizing EH hygiene promotion trainings and workshops for the community and stakeholders and coordinate in preparation and organizing all the required training materials;
Assist in providing consultation and technical assistance in EH program regarding to water quality, human, domestic and community waste management;
Prepare high quality BOQ for the WASH activities rehabilitation of borehole, water network and sanitation activity
In coordination with WASH Officer identify family and communal sanitation facilities for repairs and rehabilitations.
Facilitate the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH activities.
Ensure high quality implementation of the WASH by IRC across GAZA governorates, in a timely manner, within budget
Undertake regular and frequent supportive field visits and monitor progress of WASH and Infection prevention control (IPC) activities at project locations
Participate on meetings regarding EH hygiene promotion/sanitation as advised by the supervisor;
Document health related data and keep records on activities of hygiene promotion and sanitation;
Prepare monthly reports and submit to the supervisor on the work progress of hygiene promotion activities;
Perform any other tasks as requested by the Emergency EH/WASH Officer
Prepare and organize all training materials for hygiene promotion workshops to be held in each community.
Training and Capacity Building
Develop, review, and deliver appropriate training and capacity-strengthening opportunities to WASH Committees and hygiene volunteers.
Requirements
Proven experience in WASH programs in high-risk and complex environments with at least 3 years’ experience.
Experience in community development and hygiene promotion with at least 2 years’ experience
Practical experience, in conducting training for community WASH committees and hygiene volunteers.
BSc in Civil/Environmental engineering, Public Health, Health Promotion, Environmental Health, Behavioral Science, or relevant qualifications will be considered.
Demonstrated experience in preparing technical WASH documents including hygiene training modules, designs and BoQs for WASH activities .
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) experience preferred.
Fluency in English and Arabic.
