SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and
social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages upholds child protection policy and our selection processes reflect our commitment to the protection of children and youth from abuse. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia current works in three regions; Banadir Regions (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state (Baidoa, BurHakaba, Berdale,Qasaxdhere and Hudur) Hirshabelle State (Jowhar,Adale & Balcad)

Position title : Media Intern
Reporting to : Branding and Communication officer
Location : Mogadishu, with frequent travel to other project locations
Job summary:
The Media Intern supports the organisation’s communication and advocacy efforts by documenting our day-to-day field activities. This includes capturing high-quality photos, videos, and audios, collecting beneficiary quotes and transcriptions, and recording human-interest stories that reflect the impact of programmes on beneficiaries and the larger community.
The role also includes supporting post-production work such as editing photos, videos, and audio;assisting with short documentaries; developing visual content for social media and fundraising, reports, supporting campaigns; and assisting with graphic design and infographic presentations. The Media Intern will work closely with programme and communications teams to ensure all content is accurate, ethical, culturally sensitive, and aligned with humanitarian principles and organizational branding guidelines.
Main responsibilities
Capture high-quality multimedia content, including photos, short-form videos, social media and fundraising reels, audio clips, human-interest stories, testimonials, transcriptions, and bulletins from routine project activities, training workshops, meetings, conferences, campaigns and events, for use on SOS CV’s digital platforms and communication products, under the guidance of the Communications and Advocacy Manager.
Assist with post-production, such as editing and packaging of visual content, as per SOS Children’s Villages guidelines and share with the team in a timely manner.
Provide support in basic graphic design and layout of reports, publications, web, audiovisual products, and other communication materials to enhance the quality and visibility of SOS CV’s work.
Contribute ideas for publicity and visibility materials such as organizational brochures, calendars, newsletters, diaries, souvenirs, and best-practice publications to enhance SOS CV Somalia’s public profile.
Ensure that all multimedia content produced complies with SOS CV’s communication, audiovisual, and ethics guidelines, including informed consent, “Do No Harm” principles, image ethics, and editorial standards.
Ensure communication and multimedia materials are properly archived and organized, both digitally (including the SOS media database) and on designated external storage, for easy access and future use.
Assist in ensuring that communication content accurately reflects SOS CV programmes and operations, and support the transformation of technical or programme information into clear, engaging, and audience-friendly stories using basic storytelling approaches.
Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum: Diploma in one of the following disciplines: Journalism & Media Studies, Film & Television Production, Multimedia & Graphic Design
Two years of experience in a humanitarian setting or corporate media company
Hands-on photo and video shooting & editing skills (including use of tools such as Capcut/InShot, Adobe Premiere, Pro/Final Cut Pro, and/or other editing software).
Practical knowledge of multimedia pre-production, production and post-production skills, multimedia processes & workflows
Video copy/script-writing and storyboarding skills
Ability to identify strong storylines to tell compelling audiovisual stories,
Desirable: basic graphic design skills or working knowledge of graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
Creative by keeping up with new technologies and trends, suggesting new and creative formats to improve SOS's audiovisual content.
Strong interviewing skills with the ability to gather information from beneficiaries respectfully.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in Somali, with working proficiency in English.
