Background Information
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has been the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) main operational tool for tracking and monitoring the movements and evolving needs of displaced populations since 2004. It has been systematically deployed in medium- to large-scale humanitarian response operations in the last five years, including in all Level 3 emergencies. As of December 2024, DTM has been active in 91 countries, monitoring over 57.3 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Located in the IOM office in London, under direct supervision of the DTM Data Officer (London, UK), the successful candidate will integrate into the DTM AKO unit. The AKO unit of the global DTM support team is tasked with direct support to country and regional offices to ensure that the quality of analytic outputs is maintained in line with the global DTM standards, and are fit for purpose based on the audience and information needs at the country level. The AKO unit is also engaged in exploring the analytic potential of DTM data through various thematic workstreams including climate and natural hazard induced mobility, gender and displacement/migration, urban displacement/migration, data science and ethics and the humanitarian, development and peace nexus, among others.
The selected candidate will focus on contributing to the work done by DTM's Route Based Research team and will support the production of the Global Overview of Migration Routes, the DTM Global Support team's flagship publication in this field. Candidates must have a strong interest in mixed migration research, data, and policy. Demonstrable experience in writing about and conducting mixed migration research is an advantage.
Additionally, the selected candidate will support the quality control structures for DTM analytic outputs worldwide (analysis and reporting).

Objective: Become proficient in preparing analysis and drafting reports on operational human mobility data for operational audiences implementing programs. Learn how to draft reports on migration flows for diverse audiences. Learn how to prepare advocacy data points for senior management and other audiences.
Country and Regional Response Context
Objective: Develop a detailed understanding of the humanitarian, and post crisis response in DTM countries and how data supports interventions. Develop a detailed understanding of mixed migration flows across regional routes

• Facilitate the logistical organization of webinars in support of the DTM unit to ensure regular
internal and external updates on human mobility and displacement;
• If necessary, in coordination with DTM Country Missions provide updates on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations surrounding human mobility and displacement in the respective context;
• Assist the DTM Country Missions and teams in London in the production and quality control of
documents;
• Coordinate with other units of the global DTM support team to ensure continuity of functional workflows;
• Provide administrative and logistical support to the London team when needed;
• Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data as well as in review of DTM documents requiring remote assistance to DTM Missions, at their request;
• Assist in the refinement of DTM’s data collection methodologies and questionnaires, identifying good practices and providing recommendations for improvement;
• Support technical training of other staff, including through the organization of dedicated webinars;
• Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
Master’s degree from an accredited academic institution in a field of study related to Economics/ Development Economics, Data Science, Political Science, Social Science, Development Studies, Public health, Epidemiology or other relevant disciplines with a significant quantitative component. Alternatively, a bachelor’s/undergraduate degree in the abovementioned fields with demonstrable relevant working experience.

Fluency in Englishat a working professional level
Proficiency using Microsoft Office365 (Excel, Wordand PowerPoint)
Experience using data visualization and publication software such as the Adobe suite (Illustrator and InDesign)
Experience drafting analytic outputs
Experience in quantitative researchmethods

Experience or demonstrable interest in one or more of the global thematic workstreams.
Experience organizing webinars, training sessions and other events
Experienceworking with R (programming language), including at least threeof the following
Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS/QGIS

Notes
Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
