About this position
We are looking for an analytical, collaborative, and strategic Social Protection and Labor Markets Consultant. In this role, you will carry out a set of operational and analytical activities related to social protection, labor markets, and early childhood development.
You will work with the Social Protection and Labor Markets (SPL) team, part of the Social Sector (SCL). This team is responsible for the preparation and supervision of IDB operations in borrowing member countries in areas of social protection (safety nets, transfers, and services for social inclusion including child development, youth programs, care services for dependents, among others) and labor markets. The Social Sector is a multidisciplinary team convinced that investing in people is the best way to improve lives and overcome development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean. Together with countries in the region, the Social Sector formulates public policy solutions to reduce poverty and improve the provision of education, employment, social protection, and health services. The goal is to move toward a more productive region, with equal opportunities for men and women, and greater inclusion of the most vulnerable groups.
What you’ll do
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of Social Protection and Labor Markets projects.
- Collaborate in the adaptation, implementation, and evaluation of early childhood development projects, including play-based home visiting programs, socioemotional support programs, and remote preschool learning programs.
- Participate in technical meetings and policy dialogue with government authorities and development partners.
- Support the preparation of technical reports and analysis of sectoral information to facilitate dialogue with counterparts.
- Participate in the origination, design, and preparation of the Bank’s operational, analytical, and strategic activities (including country strategies, development challenges analysis, loans, policy dialogue, events, and knowledge initiatives).
- Identify bottlenecks and propose solutions, working with Project Executing Units to ensure progress.
- Collaborate with social protection and early childhood development specialists from other multilateral and bilateral institutions, academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs, and professional associations to promote partnerships.
- Provide support to the Division’s analytical and operational agenda in the areas of social protection, labor markets, and early childhood.
- Organize and participate in missions and field visits, when security conditions allow.
What you’ll need
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least two (2) years of progressive experience in public policy, development economics, and/or statistics and econometrics.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French is desirable.

Type of contract and duration
- International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
