Duties and Responsibilities

Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 160 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with the United Nations, Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. We are seeking a skilled Power Platform Developer for this consultancy. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in designing and implementing robust solutions using M365 Power Platform ( Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) and other available tools in the MS Office Suite. Experience working with international organisations or complex institutional environments, ensuring high-performance backend systems, secure architecture and well-designed front end user experience is highly desirable. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Consultant will be home based and will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Resource Planning and Management Section for corporate level conceptualization (based in Geneva) and the Design & Technology Solutions team (based in Bangkok) for the development, testing and roll out. The Power Platform Developer will be responsible for the following responsibilities: 1. Prepare a comprehensive three months implementation timeline covering configuration, customization, testing, go-live phases, and present to UNDRR Chief of RPMS and ICT team, Administration team and internal stakeholders. 2. Develop system requirements, including a. Review the existing Travel Planning Power Application; liaise with the team managing this tool to obtain a version for UNDRR’s customization and deployment. b. Together with RPMS team review the UNDRR workflow processes, compare to the application and identify gaps and suggest required adaptations. c. Convene discussions with the UNDRR Administration team and other internal stakeholders to propose solutions, highlighting advantages and disadvantages of options available. 3. Upon decision from UNDRR, customize / configure the Power Application. a. Prepare user acceptance testing scripts for testing phase, coordinate testing and ensure timely collections of user feedback. b. Adjust customization / configuration following user testing; 2-3 iterations can be expected. c. Work closely with UNDRR teams (business, tech and design team), front end developers and other stakeholders to ensure that APIs, technology strategy and backend functionalities are developed according to the specified requirements and standards. d. Update, modify, and troubleshoot existing backend components as needed. 4. Develop user manual with guidance and document all backend processes including API endpoints, database schema, and server configurations for future reference and maintenance by other developers. 5. Support app roll out, including a. Facilitate upto 5 online workshops to train users on the new platform. b. Provide post-go-live support for one month addressing any issues raised via the UNDRR administration team. Outputs are aligned to the UNDRR processes and UN standards. INPUTS/support from UNDRR: 1. Access to necessary M365 teams / channels / files for UNDRR 2. Access to UNDRR project management and monitoring tools. 3. Access to UNDRR collaboration environment.

Qualifications/special skills

First level degree or equivalent in computer science or closely related field is required. A minimum of 7 years ICT development experience is required. At least 1 year of experience developing applications using M365 Power Platform is required. Experience working within or with the United Nations or similar international organisations is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English is required.
