Duties and Responsibilities
As the leading UN entity on human rights, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has an independent mandate to promote and protect human rights across the world and to mainstream human rights throughout the UN system. OHCHR’s mandate, its expertise, convening power and partnerships, its role as custodian of the human rights mechanisms (treaty bodies, special procedures and Universal Periodic Review), and its experience with enhancing civic space and supporting human rights defenders. This position is located in the Procurement, Logistics, and Global Support Unit (PLU), General Administration Service Section (GASS), Programme Support and Management Service (PSMS) in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The intern reports to the Head of PLU. The Procurement, Logistics, and Global Support Unit (PLU) provides oversight, guidance, reporting, and operational support for OHCHR headquarters and global operations across a range of critical functions, including: procurement of goods and services; property management of assets and equipment; logistics including real estate, contracts and leases; registry and information services; and sustainable environmental management in processes and operations. The Unit is seeking interns who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in the planning, provision and reporting of general administrative services. The interns will support the ongoing work of the unit and tasks may change over time depending on operational requirements. Duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Supporting the implementation of projects across all functional areas. 2. Supporting the gathering and consolidation of data for tracking, analytics, and data visualization using Excel, Power BI, and other business intelligence tools to support reporting and innovation. 3. Supporting the development and revision of policy, guidance, workflows and training material across a variety of functional areas. 4. Assisting in preparing background documentation, correspondence, reports and presentations. 5. Participating in meetings and seminars as necessary and take notes, draft summary reports, minutes and assessment reports for presentation, and monitoring follow-up. 6. Supporting communication and outreach, incl. design of visual material and communication products. 7. Supporting new and ongoing activities and projects, with the possibility to propose own ideas and initiatives. 8. Assisting with physical verification of items and reconciliation of equipment records, liaison with counterparts for possible disposal, and drafting of cases for review by property survey boards. 9. Performing other activities and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Pursuing or have pursued a degree in Administration, Business, International Relations or related fields like Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Information technology. Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and familiar with analytical tools, data reporting and data visualisation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, master's or PH.D. Programme in Administration, Business, International Relations or related fields like Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Information technology. Do you meet any of the above criteria? Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
