About the Region

The UNOPS Africa Regional Office, based in Nairobi, Kenya, oversees the delivery of over 250 projects across 40 countries, with a focus on fragile and conflict-affected settings. Supported by more than 1,000 personnel across five multi-country offices—spanning North, West, Central, Eastern and Southern Africa, and the Horn of Africa—the office advances national priorities through strategic initiatives in Climate Action, Health, Infrastructure, Peace and Security, Middle-Income Country Support, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The Regional Office provides strategic leadership, operational support, and oversight in key areas including Partnerships, Communications, Management and Oversight, Infrastructure and Project Management, Health and Safety, and Security. About the Country/Multi-Country Office

Based in Addis Ababa, the Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office (HAMCO) delivers project management, procurement, and infrastructure services across Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan, with a primary focus on health, agriculture, and economic development. Established in 2009, HAMCO partners with governments and development stakeholders to implement impactful, results-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable development. Since 2024, new projects have been aimed at expanding access to healthcare, education, energy, and livelihoods, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected regions. HAMCO also provides human resource management services, supporting the effective implementation of development initiatives. Key efforts include equipping research facilities, strengthening education and health systems, building vaccine research capacity, and enhancing resilience in communities affected by crisis. Through these interventions, HAMCO contributes to inclusive growth, regional stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the Horn of Africa.

Job Specific Context

The Warehouse Clerk will support the warehouse operations in Addis Ababa, ensuring efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of goods. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate inventory levels, safeguarding goods, and ensuring a clean and organized warehouse environment. The Warehouse Clerk will work under the supervision of the Warehouse Associate and assist with various tasks related to warehouse management.

Role Purpose

The Warehouse Clerk carries out a variety of routine tasks that support the warehouse process, requiring knowledge of standard policies and basic warehouse equipment. The role involves assisting with inventory management, ensuring proper storage of goods, and maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment.

Functions / Key Results Expected

1. Warehouse Goods Management

  • Assist in the receipt, storage, and distribution of warehouse goods according to established guidelines.
  • Ensure the proper storage of goods and materials in their designated locations within the warehouse.
  • Conduct regular stock checks and cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Ensure the safe-handling of all products during picking, loading, discharging, and stocking to avoid any damages.
  • Assist in stock control and reconcile with data storage system and maintain inventory records.
  • Check when products are loaded into vehicles for delivery, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Safeguard goods at all times, implementing and overseeing warehouse security operations.
  • Accurately retrieve goods from their storage space based on work orders and pick tags.
  • Assist in keeping the warehouse clean and organized, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Assist with any assignment in the warehouse as requested by the supervisor.


2. Order Processing and Documentation

  • Assist in reviews and processes work orders and pick tags to identify items to be pulled and distributed according to established guidelines.
  • Pull and organize items based on the order requirements, ensuring they are prepared for pickup or shipment.
  • Assist in contacting suppliers or technical personnel for order status updates as needed, handle shipments or vendor arrangements.
  • Support the Warehouse Associate in filing appropriate paperwork related to warehouse operations.


3. Shipment Verification and Restocking

  • Assist in receiving and unloading daily shipments, verifying items and quantities against delivery documents.
  • Check items are stocked in appropriate spots in the warehouse, ensuring proper organization.
  • Assist in the receipt of returns, ensuring items are entered back into inventory correctly.
  • Restock items in designated warehouse locations as required.


4. Safety and Compliance

  • Follow safety procedures, including proper handling of materials and adherence to HAZMAT regulations.
  • Facilitate and participate in safety meetings as required.
  • Assist in performing regular error/audit checks, such as reviewing bin count reports, and identifies discrepancies.


5. Client Assistance

  • Assist clients (walk-in or via phone) with basic requests, and refers technical or specialized questions to higher-level personnel.
  • May perform other related duties within the scope of warehouse operations as assigned, such as basic inventory control tasks.
