Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Humanitarian Mine Action Assistant (Paramedic) for its activities in Kharkiv.
Please note that the position requires working in the field (more than 90% of the time)
Overall purpose of the role:
The Humanitarian Mine Action Assistant (Paramedic) will be responsible for providing on-site medical support for humanitarian demining operations. The main task of the paramedic will be to provide first aid to victims of an accident during the work process, which includes first aid, stabilization of the victim's condition and control over his condition during the medical evacuation process.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Responsible for providing medical coverage for DRC-HDP personnel active in the relevant Operation Area.
- During operational working hours act as Paramedic in the field with teams according to DRC-HDP Medical SOP.
- Perform basic first aid and advanced first aid at level 2 when required.
- Prepare the Evacuation plan for each individually planned hazard together with the Team leader.
- Perform stabilization of a possible accident casualty in field conditions.
- Daily inspection of medical equipment trauma kit including stretcher and Ambulance.
- Monitor, treat and follow up on the medical status of the deminers and other HDP-field staff.
- Check/Monitor the hygienic conditions of the personnel, equipment, vehicles, and compounds, and the Field Office.
- Provide weekly, and monthly reports, and incident reports to the relevant paramedic supervisor.
- Provide the medicine update list to the medical supervisor.
- Led the training that was planned as urgent for field staff during the absence of the medical supervisor.
- Plan and execute MEDEVAC exercises in the area of responsibility at the beginning of each working cycle.
- Responsible for maintaining, organizing, storing, updating, and upgrading medical Equipment at the ambulance and compound.
- Undertake any other duties assigned by the Medical DRC-HDP Medical Officer and relevant regional manager.
- Monthly basis prepared the report to the paramedic supervisor and team leader about the health condition of all field staff.
- Report to the paramedic supervisor about any communicable and epidemic disease in the area
- Prepare the accident report to the medical officer and paramedic supervisor and follow the instructions he/she received from them.
About you
To be successful in this role you must have at least 3 years of practical experience in medicine. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required:
- Paramedic qualification (diploma from a state medical institution with a qualification as a paramedic or doctor)
- Experience in emergency medical care, surgery/trauma ward.
- Experience in an ambulance crew or as a military combat medic.
Desirable:
- Preferably a good understanding of written and spoken English
- Good level of computer literacy with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related applications.

Contract length: 3-month probation period, with the possibility of extension as fixed-term contract based on funding availability and performance.
