Background
Within the Country Office and as part of UNDP’s role as the coordinating agency for the Common Premises services, the maintenance clerk will ensure provision of electrical, plumbing and maintenance services and solutions for UN agencies located in the Rosalinda 1-B & 1-C and those located outside and the services in the former UN building located at Rua Major Kanhangulo, 197.
Under the general supervision of the Common Services Associate, the incumbent will be responsible for installation repairs and maintenance of the electrical and plumbing systems within the UN current location and the former UN building as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Common Services Associate, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Electrical:
- Plan and complete all necessary steps in the installation, maintenance, repairs and servicing of all electrical systems. Troubleshoot instances of system malfunctions, interruptions and failures.
- Identify and escalate situation that require more specialised intervention.
- Perform basic installation and minor repair and replacement work such as replace blown fuses, light bulbs (LED, fluorescent, halogen), faulty switches and socket outlets, damaged plug tops, light fittings (where wiring configuration is unchanged).
- Reset tripped circuit breakers and tighten loose electrical connections (within accessible fittings).
- Perform inspection of the electrical system, mainly:
- Visual inspection of wiring, conduits, switches, and sockets.
- Check for overheating signs (burn marks, loose connections).
- Inspect distribution boards for tripped breakers.
- Verify functionality of lighting circuits.
Plumbing:
- Plan and complete all necessary steps in the installation, maintenance, repairs and servicing of all plumbing systems (drainage and sewer systems). Troubleshoot instances of system malfunctions, interruptions and failures. Ensure that working environment is clean and safe after interventions.
- Perform preventive maintenance works as required. Respond to emergency during and after normal working hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Operate reamers, threading disks, sewer tapes, pipes cutters and other plumbing equipment and hand tools.
- Inspect joints, valves, pumps, boilers, sinks commodes, tanks and other plumbing system components to locate malfunction, repair and replace when necessary.
Admin tasks:
- Prepare estimates of materials and equipment for assignments.
- Receive and track log maintenance requests (email, phone, helpdesk system).
- Maintain files for preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain updated contact lists of technicians and emergency service providers.
- Prepare basic documentation for invoice processing (no approval authority).
- Record issuance and receipt of maintenance materials. Monitor minimum stock levels and alert supervisor when replenishment is required and assist in periodic stock counts.
- Provide support as necessary during renovation, cleaning, painting, fumigation services.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned as necessary.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary Education with specialised certification in electricity and/or plumbing.
Experience:
• 3 years of relevant working experience in building maintenance (electricity, plumbing, minor repairs, Painting and touch ups, floor repair, etc.)
• Experience in installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing low-voltage electrical systems and equipment in compliance with safety standards and national electrical codes.
• Experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing water supply and drainage systems to ensure continuous and safe facility operation.
• Knowledge of standard practices, processes related tools, equipment and materials linked to the plumbing and electrical field.
• Experience in basic admin tasks such as keeping logs, drafting basic reports and archiving.
• Experience in using office equipment (computer) and basic Word and excel an advantage.
• Pro-active and able to work in the multi-cultural environment.
• Good interpersonal skills and Self- motivated.
Required Language(s):
• Fluent Portuguese
• Basci English and/or French desirable
