About the Country/Multi-Country Office
Since opening in 2019, the UNOPS Austria Multi-Country Office (AUMCO) in Vienna has served as a hub for operations across 12 countries in South-East Europe, Türkiye, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. AUMCO delivers technical expertise, operational support, and sustainable infrastructure solutions for governments, donors, and international financial institutions. Flagship initiatives include Blueing the Black Sea—a GEF and World Bank partnership to reduce pollution and promote sustainable development—and Türkiye’s post-earthquake recovery programme, enhancing protective services for women and children. In Albania, projects revitalise cultural heritage and advance digital justice, while in Kosovo, new university infrastructure supports higher education. In Georgia, AUMCO facilitates the Eastern Partnership European School and strengthens rule of law and digital health access. Across Central Asia, activities range from health system strengthening in Uzbekistan to hazardous waste management in Tajikistan. AUMCO also supports UNOPS’ global Water, Environment, and Climate portfolio, reinforcing its role as a regional and thematic centre of excellence.
Job Specific Context
This position will be home-based in one of the following four duty stations: Ankara, Hatay, Adıyaman or Istanbul
Role Purpose
Translation Retainer provides timely and accurate translations, ensuring clear communication among project partners, thereby enhancing collaboration and information exchange, supporting the project team in precise communication with national stakeholders will contribute to efficient project delivery. Ultimately, these efforts will strengthen stakeholder engagement, improve the quality of reporting and outputs, and support knowledge sharing for long-term impact.
Functions / Key Results Expected
1. Translation services
- Full and precise delivery of Oral and Written (English – Turkish- English) communications between the project and external and internal project partners on subject matters (Construction, Design, Contract Management, Environment, Women’s empowerment, etc.)
2. Effective translation, recording, and retention of information relevant to project delivery
- Proofreading and editing of the reports, minutes, official and unofficial communications, other documents and texts for the project;
- Maintaining the organized files of the documentation as instructed by the Project Team.
3. Support for the project team in qualitative and precise communication with national stakeholders and partners
- Support the project team in drafting qualitative and precise communication for liaising with the national stakeholders and partners

Education Requirements
Required
- Secondary school (High School or equivalent) with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience
- A first level (Bachelor or equivalent) or advanced (Masters or equivalent) university degree preferably in Linguistics or related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in the above mentioned subjects or related field.
Experience Requirements
Required
- Relevant experience is work in translation, interpretationor related areas.
- Experience in Translation (English-Turkish-English) simultaneous, consecutive and written.
- Experience in the use of collaboration and productivity tools (e.g. MS Office, G-Suite, Zoom, etc)
Desired
- Prior experience with the UN system or an international organization is an asset.

- For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.
- For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses (they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. Refreshers or new mandatory courses may be required during your contract. Please note that you will not receive any compensation for taking courses and refreshers.
