The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is a treaty-based intergovernmental organization with Headquarters in The Hague, the Netherlands. Its mandate is to secure the cooperation of governments and others in locating missing persons from conflict, human rights abuses, disasters, organized crime, migration and other causes and to assist them in doing so. About the Position
The Case Coordinator oversees the coordination and management of case-related information and activities within ICMP supported operations in Ukraine, ensuring that all forensic processes, including forensic anthropology and forensic genetics examinations, are conducted efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of Anthropology and Archaeology Division, the Case Coordinator’s duties and responsibilities will include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the following:
- Support the Head of AAD in organizing and deploying the AAD team to assist National Police of Ukraine, including, but not limited to attending at mortuaries to examine routine and repatriated cases, and collect post-mortem samples for DNA testing.
- Maintain regular communication with the Head of National Police of Ukraine and investigators regarding “routine” and “repatriated” cases.
- As required, assist in the mortuary during examinations/DNA sample collection.
- Provide ongoing support in the delivery and utilization of iDMS in Ukraine including but not limited to training and translation of forensic-related documents.
- Accurately enter data into specialized databases such as iDMS.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Mandatory Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in an area relevant to human identification, forensic science, forensic anthropology, archaeology, or related discipline.
- A minimum of 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in working with missing persons’ cases and identification workflows.
- Proven knowledge of the principles of forensic pathology, anthropology, odontology and DNA.
- Demonstrated understanding of medico-legal processes and chain of custody.
- Experience coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
- Proven capability in attention to detail and high standards of record-keeping.
- Experience with databases or information managements systems.
- Demonstrated capabilities in time management in high pressure or high-volume environments.
- Previous experience in research and teaching.
Other Requirements
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English and Ukrainian.
- Self-organized, self-controlled, and self-reliant, with a high level of personal and team responsibility;
- Ability to meet tight deadlines;
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel and Power Point;
- Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender;
- Ability to travel at short notice and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings;
- Commitment to the underlying objective of helping the authorities and families of the missing to account for missing persons in an impartial and transparent manner;
- Physical and mental resilience, with the ability to operate effectively in hostile environments;
- Willingness and ability to work and live in Ukraine under hardship conditions with limited infrastructure and personal privacy.
Benefits
This is a full-time, fixed-term position with a competitive base salary at the LP on the ICMP Ukraine salary scale, generous paid leave, and extensive health insurance benefits for the incumbent and any eligible dependant(s). This position is not eligible for expatriate benefits and allowances.
