Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $100+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 80% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This internship position is location in the Risk & Compliance Team within the Office of Investment Management of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. The Risk Team is responsible for the design, maintenance and evolution of risk frameworks and policies; monitoring risk exposures; providing challenge and independent oversight of UNJSPF’s operations. The incumbent reports to the Senior Risk Officer. The incumbent can work full time or part-time, in-person at OIM’s office in New York or remotely and can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate. The intern will assist with research and developing the Risk Team Responsible Investing Risk monitoring and Reporting. The Risk Team monitors risk exposures across UNJSPF operations. The Risk team is evolving our Responsible Investing Risk Framework. One of our focus areas is to conduct research and analysis on the ESG risk data that OIM is currently using in it’s operations. The intern will support the prototypes of Responsible Risk monitoring reports for the Risk team. With appropriate guidance, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks: - Research and support the exploration of responsible investment (ESG) data available. Contribution to integration of Responsible risk data with portfolio and other risk data. - Developing indicative Responsible Investing risk reports using OIM ESG risk data sources such as MSCI and RepRisk. - Develop and document report processes including using different tools to automate reports such as Power BI and Python to process data.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, Python, and good knowledge of data analytics. Knowledge of Responsible Investing concepts and/or data are desirable. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
