Your team

Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the Operations Division (OPS) is responsible for managing the provision of air traffic services to civil and military airspace users, operational concept development and airspace design. It is also responsible for advising the Director MUAC on military ATM matters and civil-military coordination, and for managing the training of operational and Air Traffic Services Electronics Personnel.

Your role

Your role will be

  • Provide specialised technical support by analysing proposed system changes and assessing the impact on operational processes to support the testing, validation and implementation of operational system changes in line with the requirements.
  • Develop, plan and implement validation protocols for new and existing systems and processes in cooperation with relevant subject matters experts and end users.
  • Coordinate the validation of proposed system changes by performing functional tests and validating tools/systems/methods to ensure they meet specified requirements and standards; identify and address any issues or non-conformances.
  • Participate in working groups and projects aimed at operational enhancements, technical developments, or validation exercises.
  • Monitor systems by evaluating operational occurrences, particularly after new system implementation.
  • Support the drafting of technical working documents, reports, presentations, etc. related to the validation and implementation activities, ensure that updates are available and published.
  • Develop knowledge and skills in field of expertise under the guidance of more senior staff.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completion of secondary education, meeting EQF Level 4 followed by at least 8 years of relevant professional experience to perform the advertised responsibilities OR

  • Completion of a post-secondary education, meeting EQF Level 5 (or higher) followed by at least 5 years relevant professional experience to perform the advertised responsibilities.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Experience in supporting system changes and associated processes.
  • Understanding of validation and testing methodologies (e.g. European Operational Concept Validation Methodology (EOCVM) and principles from ISTQB) and familiarity with software development approaches (e.g. Agile, V-Model).
  • Technical drafting skills in English.

The following would be considered an advantage:

  • Understanding of Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux environments basic command-line operations.
  • Experience with Excel Visual Basic scripting to automate data extraction, processing & reporting tasks.

    Contract staff engaged for a determined period
    • Retain their current type of contract duration.
    • Continue under their existing contract duration, as contract durations are not cumulative.
    • The duration of their contract will therefore not restart upon selection to the new post, i.e. the remaining duration of their current determined contract continues to apply.
    • Renewal(s): This contract may be renewed several times, but its total duration, including all renewal periods, may not exceed nine (9) years.
    • Conversion: Conversion to an undetermined duration contract is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic.

    • Retain their current type of contract duration.
    At the end of the 5 Year period of the post for which they were selected:
    • If the assignment is extended, they will continue in the post in accordance with the applicable rules.
    • If the assignment is not extended and/or the duties are not confirmed as being of a lasting nature, they will be transferred to another post corresponding to their previous generic post, job level, and function group.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
