The World Bank’s Infrastructure VPU, part of the WBG knowledge Bank, provides investment and advisory services for private and public sector clients across energy, mining and metals, transport, waste, and tourism sectors, and further mobilizes private sector capital from institutional investors and other financial institutions. It acts as a strategic partner to the private sector, leveraging its financial resources, deep-seated global expertise, and ability to mitigate risk and mobilize capital to foster infrastructure development that opens markets, drives economic growth, creates jobs and improves living standards in emerging markets in the development of a wide array of infrastructure sectors.

The Energy Investments, Solutions & Impact team (KIESI) is part of the Infrastructure VPU at WBG Knowledge Bank. Our unit is responsible for supporting regional industry teams in structuring and executing investments with private sector clients in the energy sector, providing sector knowledge and expertise to shape scalable products and solutions that will mobilize private capital and managing key global private sector clients. It covers energy sectors such as power generation, transmission and distribution, and innovative clean energy technologies such as battery storage and green hydrogen

KIESI  is looking to recruit an (Associate) Investment Officer to contribute to its priorities. 

Duties and Accountabilities

•  Work closely with other members of the team and the Knowledge Bank to support IFC investment teams globally in structuring debt, equity, and blended finance instruments. 
•  Collaborate with interdisciplinary Knowledge Bank teams to support IFC's investment decision making process by promoting best practices and sharing global investment expertise. 
•  From time to time, as member of project teams, contribute to execution of new IFC investment transactions including preparing investment proposals, conducting due diligence as well as detailed financial, market, and risk analyses. 
•  Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and provide insights on market trends, risks, and opportunities in the energy sector to inform WBG strategic decision-making. 
•  Support the development and implementation of WBG strategies, as well as innovative financing solutions and initiatives to address market gaps and promote private sector participation in selected energy segments. 
•  Work with Global relationship managers to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and co-investors to identify and develop a robust pipeline of high-impact investment opportunities. 

Selection Criteria

•  Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field relevant to investment, energy, and/or infrastructure. 
•  Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in commercial banking, investment banking, private equity, or industry roles focused on energy or infrastructure projects. 
•  Strong quantitative skills with demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and structuring of complex investment transactions, particularly in energy or infrastructure sectors. 
•  Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of delivering results in dynamic and fast-paced environments. 
•  Familiarity with multiple financial products, including project/corporate finance and equity. 
•  Proven ability and interest in understanding and synthesizing energy sector dynamics, challenges, and opportunities with active engagement in knowledge creation and dissemination. 
•  Strong interpersonal as well as verbal & written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in diverse, multicultural teams and build relationships with stakeholders across sectors. 
•  Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries. 
•  Proficiency in English, with additional language skills (e.g., French, Spanish, or Mandarin) considered an asset for global engagement. 
•  High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace culture.
