The objective of the assignment is to achieve the following: • Raise awareness among the public, policymakers, and the private sector about innovative solutions that accelerate climate investments in alignment with countries’ NDC priorities. • Contribute to strengthening UNEP’s visibility and influence with Parties, development partners, and donors, showcasing its NDC work and ability to shape UNFCCC processes and support COP Presidency initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. This consultancy is based in the Climate Change Division’s Mitigation Branch, specifically within the Policy and Planning Unit (PPU). Its primary focus is supporting the Nationally Determined Contributions Act & Invest initiative (NDC Act & Invest), with additional responsibilities for addressing other PPU communications needs as required. The NDC Act & Invest initiative delivers targeted, science-based and policy-aligned technical assistance to help countries implement priority NDC measures and to secure the necessary funding. It operates in close coordination with partners including the NDC Partnership, UNDP and the UN system-wide Climate Promise 2025, Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), among others. Under the supervision of the Global Lead, Advocacy & Communications, Climate Action, and NDC Act & Invest Programme Coordinator and in close collaboration with UNEP Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, the consultant will support knowledge management, communication, and digital outreach for all NDC Act & Invest–related activities as well as UNEP’s broader NDC work. The consultant will provide communications, content, and knowledge management support, ensuring the NDC Act & Invest initiative maintains a strong and coherent digital presence, consistent messaging, and well-organized knowledge assets. The consultant will: • Maintain, update, and expand the NDC Act & Invest website and UNEP NDC webpage ensuring accessibility, accuracy, and timely content. • Act as a UNEP communications focal point for NDCs Climate Change Division related work in close collaboration with UNEP Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement specialist. • Support the development of digital content, knowledge materials, and communication products that promote the NDC Act & Invest initiative. • Assist with NDC related priority climate deliverables, including overseeing the editing, design, and layout of reports, briefs, and related assets. • Support the web presence and content rollout for high-visibility NDC moments and major events. • Provide additional support in communications, content creation, and knowledge management on an ad hoc basis, as needed by the Policy and Planning Unit. • Perform other duties on related areas of work, such as NDC Cluster support, if needed.

Qualifications/special skills

• Bachelor’s and Masters degree in Communications, Environmental Management, Political Sciences, International Relations or related fields (Required). ● Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public Communication, Programme management or related field, is required. ● Experience in communications, event management, or coordination of outreach and dissemination activities. (Required). ● Experience working with public institutions, international organizations, or cooperation projects is required. ● Experience working with the United Nations, in particular UNEP is desirable. ● Experience with UNEP’s work on NDCs is desirable ● Experience participating in and/or organizing major international climate events, such as the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties and Climate Weeks, NDC peer exchange workshops, and other relevant forums is desirable. ● Knowledge on the UNFCCC process, the UN system-wide Climate Promise 2025 and related work by key partners is desirable. ● Experience organizing events related to environmental or climate change topics is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and spoken English and French is required.
