Duties and Responsibilities
Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction has about 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with United Nations Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. The primary objective of the consultancy is to develop and deliver short-form multimedia communication products on earthquake preparedness and early warning systems, and to facilitate their dissemination through national media and government stakeholders in Vanuatu. Additionally, the consultant will develop short form multimedia communication products on Anticipatory Action in Vanuatu, what it means, progress to date and impacts at community level. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Head of UNDRR Subregional Office in the Pacific in cordination with the External Relations Officer in the Regional Office for Asia-Pacific and UNDRR’s Communications team.
Qualifications/special skills
A first-level university degree in communications, media, film production or a related field is required. - At least 5 years of experience in media and content production required. - Demonstrated experience producing short-form video and audio content for public awareness campaigns is required. - Experience in collaborating with government institutions and media organizations in the Pacific region is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in Bislama and English is required.
