The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. 

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities.

b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or

c) are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.

d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.

e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

Background Information

Interns will gain valuable training and exposure to IOM GSSC IT processes and procedures, while acquiring practical experience in essential IT support services. This includes computer troubleshooting, system setup and maintenance, and direct engagement with end-users to develop problem-solving and communication skills.

Working under the overall direction of the GSSC SRMO and direct supervision of RM ICT Officer, 
the intern will assist with the operational activities of the GSSC. Tasks will include: 

Responsibilities

Task 1: Computer Hardware Maintenance and Cleaning – To develop technical discipline and attention to detail by performing routine maintenance and cleaning of computer hardware, ensuring equipment longevity and optimal performance. 

Task 2: Basic Computer Setup and Troubleshooting – Build foundational IT support skills through hands-on experience in system setup, configuration, and troubleshooting common technical issues, fostering problem-solving and analytical thinking. 

Task 3: End-User Engagement – Strengthen communication and interpersonal skills by interacting with end-users, practicing active listening, and applying problem-solving strategies to deliver effective IT support. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education 

  • The candidate must be a recent graduate within one (1) year of completing an IT-related university degree, or 

  • a graduating student currently in their final year of study.

Skills 

  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications. 

  • Knowledgeable in computer hardware maintenance & troubleshooting. 

  • Fluent in English communication, both written and oral.

Languages

For this internship, Fluency in English, both written and oral.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.

IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
